To be honest, I just did the three hours of homework a night and made sure it was done well. If you have time left before you hit three hours, you should look over notes for the day that weren't involved in your learning homework, and as the year progresses, go back over those notes with your extra time. The reason teachers are giving you so much homework is to make sure something at least goes in if you're not bothered with studying.

We were always told by teachers while doing the junior cert that if you're doing over three hours a night, you're doing too much. You're going to burn yourself out.

In the long run, the junior cert is just preperation for the leaving. You will do VERY LITTLE that is actually relevant to anything that will come up in the leaving cert - so the junior is really all about determining whether you're going to do honours or pass in a subject for your leaving.

Don't stress about it! Just take your time and try to get through your homework instead of rushing to get it done so you can fit in study too!

This the truth we're speaking. The thing is, nobody gives a shyte about the Junior Cert. Once it's done it's forgotten about. You'll never be asked for your Junior Cert results in a job interview and once you start fifth year nobody gives tuppence about it.
So take our advice and do feck all for the next academic year. Enjoy the freedom because as soon as you start fifth year you'll hear about nothing but the Leaving Cert 24/7.

As much as you need to. Spend half an hour rereading something you did 2 weeks before, for example.

I studied for like an hour a night for 3 weeks before the exams and got 6 Bs, 2 Cs and 1 D (But thae D was in french, and Ive always been useless at languages) The teachers make the exams out to be way more difficult than they are. If your asking now, at the very beginning of your school year, you show yourself to be studius and therefore youll be fine. But, for peace of mind, do 1.5 hours a night in the 3 months leading up to your exams (anytime before that and your still leanring new stuff and youl just burn yourself out - I know a guy who had a nervous breakdown because of this).

Oh, and they do matter, becaue it determines what level classes you do in leaving cert (Like my D in french put me in the ordinary level class, despite doing the higher level junior cert paper)

I'm only in 2nd year and I get about 2 12 hours a night then we have 2 learn all the stuff.

Do your homework and then do 1 1/2 - 2 hours of study. Actually, you should probably do way more...

I'm doing my jc this coming summer and (according to the principal) we're supposed to do two hours homework and about two more hours study every night. It varies though, one girl I know who's in ty now did 4 hrs study on top of homework every night, but another did absolutely none. Personally, I'm just going to focus on homework, and maybe do a bit of studying if I have time - after all, all it is is a pre for the leaving
