How welcome are Americans looking for a new begining in Ireland?

I asked a similar question earlier, but I just want to know how welcome are Americans in Ireland? I myself am an educated man, I love to laugh and chat, I'm prior military and from my experiences, I have a great understanding and acceptance for all peoples and religions.
I was raised catholic and my Father came here from Ireland when he was 10. I'm looking to move there instead of finding a place in America. Any clue as to how welcome I will be? possibly?
Additional Details
Just to clear this up: I love the American people. There are so many good hard-working honest citizens here, but the same can be said for every country.
And if I wanted to brag about America, I wouldn't want to move out of it.
A government is nothing but a body of people, notably ungoverned, And the Bush administration made me watch 6 of my friends die for a cause none of us really believed in.
I really don't enjoy sharing my personal life, however i feel it is helpful to get my point across.
I know of the controversy in Shannon airport, and the troop stopovers and how some people see it as threatening Ireland's Military Neutrality, but if someone could educate me further, or maybe send me a link to some good articles, it would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I know it takes 4-5 years of living in Ireland to get a citizenship, however I have heard there are some differences to people with heritage or relatives who immigrated from Ireland. A link would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Americans are very welcome here in Ireland. Just make sure you dont brag about how things are bigger and better in the states!! thats the only thing we dislike.

I totally agree with Mikey...don't brag about how good the States are...... You should have no problems settling in Ireland especially when you are Irish descent

I'm not from Ireland, but I'm in a similar situation as you. I'm not thinking of moving there, but my dad came over to the States from Ireland when he was in his twenties. I've been to Ireland a few times, and I have to say that the Irish are very welcoming and nice people. They don't care where you're from, as long as you're a nice and genuine person. If you've never been there I suggest you plan a trip before moving entirely.

Irish people are very homely and accepting ........but they don't have a lot of time for people that want to brag .....I think if your hardworking and like a laugh and a chat....and appreciate the beauty of Ireland....you will be accepted in with open arms ...Good luck!

I think you are welcome once your not very pro iraq etc etc and always debate about it and once you don't talk about how great america in comparision to ireland but like talking about the differences etc etc your always welcome to.
But some people maybe rude but screw them there just eejits and besides I'm from dublin I would Know

If your father came over from Ireland, You can automaticaly become an Irish citizen by applying to the Irish Embassy. The only requirement that you'll need is documented proof that your father was born in Ireland. After you receive your citizenship papers apply for an Irish passport and there will be no more problems after that.

Like any other country on the British Isles really, it depends on where abouts you want to live on the island.

Mr. Sniffy
They are not welcome. Please stay where you are and we'll keep sending the Guinness. If you come against our will, we will take away St.Patrick's Day, Cabbage and U2.
