How well can you see the stars at night in Ireland?

Here in Manchester, England it's quite rare for a starry sky.

If you bother to get out of the cities ,you will be guaranteed the best light show on earth. I have been camping in Donegal, with the kids, ( can totally recommend Kinnego Bay beach), and seen the most extraordinary skys, literally ten or twenty times more stars than you will see in a city, but also satellites and shooting stars. In late autumn / winter when the conditions are right you also can get brilliant light shows of the Aurora Borealis, which will blow you away. its hard to over emphasize just how spectacular a show you will get on a clear night.

Well worth making a trip,if not over here go to N Scotland were I am sure you will experience the same things.

Rob
I live in a rural area miles from nowhere, and on a clear night you can literally hundreds or thousands of them if you look straight up.

Thing is, it is a very rural area, no factory pollution, no light pollution.

In a city, I doubt you could see a thing.

Electric Bird
I live in the subarbs of Dublin and because of all the polution in the air I've only ever seen stars on very few occasions. The worst part is that people don't even give a crap.

I appreciate all the stars in the sky when I go down the country for the summer. They're beautiful, I just wish I could see them everyday. :(

Charlieee
not very often.
but when you can they're beautiful
(:

where I live I can see the stars really really well (when it's not cloudy) which is kinda surprising coz i live in a middle sized town... but on a clear nite i can see everything i'm always seeing shooting stars!:)

I should be doing something else
Not so well tonight, looking out, but I can usually see them quite well.

Caz D
Not very well in Dublin, I'm afraid. I never see stars, or the sun for that matter during the daytime....thats why I'm getting the **** out of here!

That depends. In rural areas with no streetlights, you can see them every night there's a clear sky.

bluebell
I'm outside the town, so can see plenty, as long there are no clouds. Even further away, in the middle of nowhere, they are amazingly bright. Fantastic.

gms
They are beautiful in the countryside. You can see them really well on a clear night. Unfortunately this is not all the time as there is often cloud.

aoife b
Ya cant c them that well

Like a Fox
In the cities or towns not often, you can see them here (Kildare) if you get away from the street lights.

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge

Out in the middle of nowhere? You can literally see thousands of them on any given night. It really is quite pretty.....

Sean
In the country, here in Ireland or anywhere, where there's no pollution you'd be able to see the stars on a clear night.

City lights, even town lights, prevent you from seein the sky proper. Have you not seen that Simpsons episode?

Here, in County Down, the stars are amazin to look at sometimes.
