Howya yourself! I ended up doing mine in the Met Office in Glasnevin (very close to the botanic Gardens) when I was having dizzy dreams of working as a weather forecaster. This was probably back in 98/99 and I had a brilliant week, the people there really couldn't have been nicer to me!
Did all the usual work experience stuff, addressing Christmas cards to all the people round the country who collect rain samples for the Met, ticking off invoices and they even let me fax off all the weather forecasts to a few regional radio stations. Exciting stuff for a 15 year old let me tell ya.
Get your son to send off a few emails or letters off to places he's interested in. It always looks better when the work experience student takes an interest.
I vividly remember being rejected by the Central Statistics Office but *sigh* such is life. |

This is the norm up here in the North. Try supermarket shelf packing, leisure centre (scrubbing out showers), any of the farmers looking for a mucker out. I'm afraid it will only be the very lucky ones who get anything half decent and anything to do with what they really want to do when they leave school.Been there with my lad, he packed shelves, ended up doing engineering degree! Don't waste time getting upset about it. |

I'm fourteen and I'm doing my work experience at the local zoo this year. I live in Wales, not Dublin, but here are some other stuff that people in my form are doing...
-Garage
-Doctor's surgery
-Veterinary Surgery
-Local leisure centre
Just ask around at the shops/attractions around your town...
But remember, ultimately, it's your son's decision!

Have you asked the headmaster for any suggestions?
Maybe try a local county court, bakery, library etc - all places where they could use runners and messengers! |

Try any big hotels around you
That's where I ended up going for my work experience when I was searching at the last minute to find someplace
They always need extra hands to do clean up and other exciting stuff like that |

I'm in Canada; but, how about a hospital? Maybe the childrens ward. Reading, taking them outside, just making their lives a little better. |

What are you doing arranging his work experience?
As you said, he's supposed to do it himself.
Work experience is quite common - all schools that do TY do it.
Get him to go round pound shops. A session working in one of those and you can be sure he'll try harder to get a placement himself next time. |

Just make him search for himself, it's his work experience. If that fails, do what Philip suggested. |
