Hub caps in trees what does it mean?

I have just seen this recently, where you are driving along and I have seen hub caps hanging on branches on trees. Has anyone else seen this and what does it mean? Did someone just open the window of their car and fling it out and it just happened to land on a branch, has a drug dealer moved into the area or can the local authority no longer afford road signs and will be sending someone out to paint arrows or speed limits on them?
Additional Details
For some reason I can't see the person whose car it came off going back along that same road looking at every single tree to see if their hub cap is hanging on it.

Nothing that interesting! Someone just spotted it on the road and put it somewhere where it makes it easier for whoever lost it to find it again!

Soul Jacker
No there's a very straightforward answer and I know this because my dad does it.

People put hubcaps in visible places so the people who lost said hubcaps can find them more easily. I think it may be a country thing.

Have faith in humanity, we're not all drug dealing scum! :)
