While everyone is welcomed in Ireland, being a Canadian, you are welcomed almost everywhere. Go and have a great time!

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge

Oui oui, bien sur!

Sher we love the Canadians. They're like the Americans but without the BS.

Everyone is welcome in ireland - just don't call it Eire and don't go on about being "Irish" or they'll think you're a plastic paddy!

Go for it - I spent a great 18 months living in Dublin - it's everything you imagine!

The Nine Lives of Laura Gonzales
Of course, as long as you don't harp on about your roots non stop. Nobody really cares where your grandparents came from, you'd just be Canadian to us. And don't ever use the word "Eire", you'll just make yourself look like an ignorant wannabe.

Also, even if your accent is obviously Canadian, people will still assume that you're American.

Like Orla said, moving here at the moment isn't a good idea. Maybe visit for now and then wait for the economy to recover if you still want to move.

Best of luck ^_^

You'd be considered just another tourist, to be honest.

Don't refer to it as Eire, even if it is the official name of the Republic of Ireland.

Visit first, then make up your mind about actually living here. Emigrating here right now is not a good idea, the downturn in the global economy has affected Ireland also.

As a non-EU national, finding a job will be impossible unless you have a particular skill in short supply in Ireland.

music♥.
I'm canadian and I spent a couple of weeks there with my family.
I loved it ! I was so upset to leave.
I love the people there, personally find them way more friendly than the people here. So i think you would be more than welcome .
All the best

SorchaRose
Sure. I agree do not say "Eire" or anything of the sort. About going on about ancestors...I think it's fine and appropriate to a certain extent. I think it is great if you want to see where your relatives were from. It can get quite annoying though. Fine to talk about it if the other party is interested or is a genealogy specialist etc.

Don't talk about moving yet - that is a major decision. Go over there a few times first.

I think you will be fine though. Have fun!

we don't care where your from we welcome everyone as long as they are nice and not ignorant! sure people from all over america and other parts of the world welcomed the irish during the famine so we're not going to not welcome people here after that!

♥ Lucy ♥
Yes you would.

T.M
of course you will be accepted, ireland is one of the least racist country in the world

well canada is a great country and call it eire, as this is the name of the place in our language.

oh and u will be welcomes as long as ur not a gypsy(either irish traveller or romani)

everyone else is welcome more or less in irish society, my ancestors are polish who hated england and moved here ages ago.

sure taxi drivers will complain about african taxi drivers but its more to do with terrible regulation rather than the people themselves.

alan m
Yes but dont call it Eire or southen Ireland. Then they will get angry. Even though its official name is Eire and it really is southern Ireland. I mean how can you have Northern reland which is British and no Southern Ireland. They like you to say Republic of Ireland as it gives the impression of all one country. But as you know its actually part British and part Irish.
