Please disregard what Cat said because it is all a pile of bulls*@t. In some estates in Belfast and a few other small area's in the North of Ireland, there is some sectarian violence but Ireland as a whole has grown tired of all that and everyone gets on with everyone. The troublemakers are in the small small minority here. And no person is going to ask a visiting tourist to pick between the Protestants and catholics. That's crazy talk. True, it's known that the Irish have a temper, but that's like stereotyping all blondes as dumb. Any visitor here is welcomed with warmth and kindness, and we are known the world over for it.
There's many different places in ireland that you could visit and each place is somehow different. Along the east coast, you have Dublin, Newgrange and Tara in Co. Meath and Glendalough in Co.Wicklow. If you head over the west coast, there's Galway, the Burren in Co.Clare, Kerry and Cork. Waterford is a place to check out aswell. If you head up the north , there's Donegal and the northern coastline all the way to the Giant's causeway in Co. Antrim. My advice to you would be to hire a car on arrival and travel the country. The country is small and you can drive to most places in 3-4 hours. Just make sure you bring a lot of money(dublin espically is very expensive, around the west coast and the midlands is a lot cheaper)and loads of different types of clothes(the weather here can be unpredicatible, even though its very hot here today, thank god).

I took a trip to Dublin once for a weekend and thouroughly recommend it, try the rough guide books for ideas on where to go and see, eat and drink etc...oh and make sure you sample the Guiness, its excellent!

If you're looking for scenery, there's nothing like the north west of the country - Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo area. Stunning.

I am not from there but did visit. Rent a car and drive, drive, drive! We found the coolest places, with no tourists! Everything such as roads are easy to find, and there is always a B&B around the corner. Everyone is so nice. My tip is stay out of Dublin,so many rude tourists. Go to the country. Wexford county is on the south east coast and is considered the working class area. It was wonderful. Everyone you talk to will tell you a great story over a pint.

I'm not from Ireland, but I have visited. You have to kiss the Blarney Stone! Its a must do - everyone needs some Irish luck!!!

Have a great time!

I have been to Ireland and it is a really beautiful Country. I have been to Belfast, which has a really good bar there called The Fly it is on different floors. Then there is Omagh in County Tyrone, another lovely place with a lot of history in the Media, and then there is Donnegal which is beautiful and a place i would advice everyone visits once in a life time. I would also advice you hire a car if you have the time and drive around Ireland, there are many beautiful places and the people are very welcoming.

I went to Ireland about ten year ago. I was in the St. Patrick's day parade in Dublin. My suggestion is to bring a raincoat and hat !! It didn't exactly rain, but nearly everyday we were there it was so misty and damp outside. It is beautiful there though and I strongly suggest taking tours of old castles. It was really neat. You can go inside of one called Bunratty Castle and have a historical meal there ( or at least ten year ago you could ). It was a very educational and FUN experience!

Take it slowly do not expect too much because the first town you arrive at you may not want to leave. For the cultured visit Dublin or Cork and for the want to go back in time I suggest Galway (conamera) The pubs and Craic are great and visit web sites just for a taste of it. When traveling go by bus more to see etc. Do not hire a car as the traffic here is terrible no matter where you go. At the end of the day enjoy it and bring wet gear no matter what time of the year, remember we have plenty of pubs where you can shelter and feel welcome ... Slan Leat agus go neiri on bother leat../...... A Bit of Irish to take with you

Although I'm from the US, I love Ireland & hope to go there, too. I am always looking into Ireland travel. I have a great resouce book to recommend to you. Frommer's Frugal Traveler's Guides - Ireland From $45 A Day. The ISBN # is 0-02-860871-2.

For websites, check out tourismireland, discoverireland, and also The Irish Tourist Board. You'll find all the visitor info you need, plus entry requirements. Have fun on your trip to Ireland! :-)

My best advice to you is that you better decide if your going to be a cathlic or a prostatin because in Ireland there is a constant battle between the two.
My mother was a true Irish women with one heck of a temper and most of the Irish are as well so pay close attention to what you say before you say it-
