I'm visiting County Monaghan in May. What kind of reputation does the county have?

Additional Details
I'm studying abroad in County Monaghan and was just wondering what kind of place it is. From what I've gathered, it seems like a quiet place. Does it have a reputation for anything in particular? In other words, what is its claim to fame? What kind of things there are to do?

Its quiet enough, clones would be its most vibrant town. Big on the GAA sports i suppose its just a typical Ulster county. Its claim to fame is Barry McGuigan the former world champion boxer, he was from Clones. So a typical Ulster county, quiet slow paced easy going quite rural in some ways even for the towns and villages. But of all of the nine counties of Ulster Antrim/Belfast would be the most cosmopolitan Donegal the most Beautiful so i guess Monaghan would fall somewhere in between the two. But it still is rural Ireland after all

edit: for the 2 below, if i need geography lessons on Ireland from orangemen i'd stick my dick in a crocs mouth first.

Put it this way, there's a pub in Monaghan that's a self-appointed shrine to the late great Paddy Kavanagh, for the tourists ya see.
The funny thing is, when he was alive they wouldn't leave him next or near the place, he was barred for life!

dollymix (now geeky for a month)
Aye it's quiet enough. Nothing scandalous. Not at all like the cities.

Its a pretty quiet county. Its claim to fame is that its on the N2 road.

I live in Monaghan!=]
Yes,it's quiet enough, but there is lots to do including golf, walks in nice parks eg Rossmore Park, fishing etc.
You can also visit Castle Leslie in Glaslough, where Paul Mc Cartney married Heather Mills a few years ago. Louis Walsh also took his X Factor troops here a few weeks ago.
Its claim to fame is probably Castle Leslie, which I mentioned above. Sir Jack Leslie, who owns the castle, is quite a character and although at the age of 80, he still goes to nightclubs in Monaghan town! There is also a haunted room in the castle.
Monaghan is known as the 'farney' county, which means the county of little hills.
You can also go for walks in the Bragan mountains, and look out for wildlife.
Of course there is cinemas etc in Monaghan town.
Monaghan town is also known for its great restarants, and I recommend the Westenra Arms Hotel for dinner and the Squealing Pig or Master Deerys for tea.
There is also a spa in the Hillgrove Hotel if you fancy a treat!
Hope you enjoy your time here!x

Since when did Ulster have nine counties? Last time I was there it was six!
