I've been asked to go to Dublin for a little 3 day holiday. Anyone been there?

If so, can you tell me what it was like and what the people were like? I just want to hear other people's opinions. Thank you!

I used to work in Dublin. It's great. I travel worldwide and I'd rate the restaurants in Temple Bar as some of the best I've eaten in. The people are great. I was in Dublin at the time of 9-11. The US had grounded all their flights and you couldn't get a hotel there for love nor money. So the ordinary Irish people just opened their doors and put people up, gave them a bed. That wouldn't happen anywhere else in the world. That's how hospitable the Irish are. Go on the open top bus, the sites are nothing but the bus drivers commentary on Dublin City is worth it. Just go! Eat and drink, to hell with the cost have a damn good time!

BAM!
Well, I live there and Yes it is expensive. But we are a very friendly people!!!

I live in Dublin and i honestly think you will have a great time. We have lots of tourists here and i feel that most people are very friendly and great craic. It can be expensive thought so be warned. Hope you do come here and enjoy it. We are known for our welcomes.

Dublin is friendly, but the west of Ireland is friendlier - fact. Dublin is also quite expensive, so it's a good thing you're only going for 3 days.

The famous night spot in Dublin is Temple Bar, and this is only due to tax incentives made available by the Irish government during the late 1980s. Before this, Temple Bar was a dangerous place peopled with prostitutes and drug dealers, and you didn't go down there at night .... today it's all bright lights and big prices, but it's good fun for a night out.

I like going to Dublin but it has become very expensive since they started using the Euro.

I suppose we are fairly nice people. I think i'm nice anyway, lol. You'll have a good 3 days no doubt about that. Have fun and enjoy x

Its a fabulous city, the people are so friendly. The main city centre is not huge so its easy to get about on foot but the public transport system is easy to use if you want to get around the greater Dublin area.
Must visit the Guinness factory and Phoenix Park.
Enjoy, you'll love it

Great city. Busy and lots of noise. Some street crime. Trinity College, the Art Gallery, the museums, the cathedrals are great. Stay centrally or close to the DART railway line. Compact city with loads of attractions in the city centre. Good eatery off Bachelors walk--Epicurean Food Hall. Irish Church Mission Evangelical Bookshop on Bachelors walk is small but interesting. Dawson street has loads of bookstores.Get a map of the city centre when you get an all day ticket on the central Dublin tourist bus.7 to 8 Euros and it gets you to all the attractions. Choral afternoon service in Christchurch Cathedral is good!!

Dublin is one of the top Tourist Cities in Europe. There is plenty to see and do, lots of shops if you want to shop 'til you drop. Get information from Bord Failte, Upper O'Connell st; Dublin 1. or go into the Internet. The best way to see the tourist spots in the city is to use the open top buses, and you can hop on and hop off as you like. Prices are not too dear, or too cheap. Some dearer than other cities and some cheaper. Meal are good in Hotels and Restaurants, and prices vary, but you can ask for a tourist menu, or check out the early bird menu. Like all cities in whatever country you visit, always remember that not everybody is a tourist, so just watch you purse or bag, the same as you would do if you were at home.
If you can, try and get out to Malahide, and if you are going by car you could check out St Doulagh's Church, Balgriffin. Enter the name in small case on the website, and if you ring the phone number on it, you may be able to arrange a visit.

Hi, I have been to Dublin 3 times in the past year i LOVE it. The atmosphere is fantastic, great shopping, great restaurants, great people. If you go, go on a tour bus it's well worth the money, they are hop on off buses all day and they take to to all the tourist sights. Henry St. is fantastic for shopping, (it's just off O'Connell St next to the Post Office). Go you will have a great time.

It's really nice and touristy, but very expensive.

Croke Park,Trinity College and Kilmanen Jail are all excellent places to see there.

I could be ages telling you about it so these sites might help:

i love dublin. it is a bit expensive but what country capital isnt. the people were extremely friendly and easy going while i was there. its not too hard to sit down and have a lengthy conversation over a few pints or to go out and explore the city. likewise, you can catch a train down the southeast coast and enjoy the scenery and bits of the ocean here and there.

I like visiting Dublin....not sure if i would like living there with the traffic etc. but i think sice you'll only be there for three days that you got the right idea!!
The people there like Irish people are nearly always very friendly and have plenty of time for you
Enjoy!!!

I should be doing something else
Dublin is ok, as someone said before, the Guinness factory is well worth a visit and there are lots of great bars, clubs and restaurants, someone said they had trouble getting a taxi? I find Dublin is really easy to get a taxi in, but be careful, I got in the texi and they obviously heard my northern accent and tried to take me to the hotel the long way to get more money.
As someone else said, Belfast is much better, and not as expensive!

ukok
Simply put Dublin is great if your drunk. If your not its a fairly mundane drab little place with limited sights and attractions. (Guinness factory - says it all) I think it's one of those places worth going to but dont forget your hip flask!

Private
Yes ,been on a stag weekend.

Was a good night out but no different from any other town centre except that the queues for the taxis was impossibly long and it was freezing. We were forced to take a horse and carriage at great expense. Its quite possible that there is some council level corruption involved in limiting the number of cabs available.
As for a 3 day holiday,it has nothing to offer whatsoever.try York.
