Well now, my advice is, if you live in a city where you are, don't go to a city here unless you're just passing through.

Be aware when you're making your plans that it takes 2 or more hours to drive 100 miles (160 km) because the roads here are not built for speedy commuting.

Take 2 weeks and stay in the same region, you'll see a good lot of that region. Hire a car for the job, but not a very big one, medium or small is much better.

If you travel to Ireland in the summer, book as much of your accommodation in advance as you can. Despite being a bit expensive, Ireland is still very popular.

Get hold of the DK Eyewitness Guide for Ireland. I get this for other countries (I live in Ireland) and it's great. It also includes information about festivals, which are getting better all the time, due in part to the foreign nationals who now live here and are part of the community.

As for the best places - it's all good. I have a preference for the west, but then I've always had that even though I grew up in the South East of Ireland.

Dublin, you nust visit Dublin, its fantastic.

mareeclara
I enjoyed some of the castles/ruins etc eg Cashel, that are scattered all over the place. The hillsides look like they do in the calenders ie green and rolling.
I also liked Cobh (said cove) near Cork and the Dingle Peninsular.
I didn't see enough and I was there for only 5 days.
Dublin is quite nice and I like Kilkenny.
I would hire a car to get around and take your, even though its small, the roads are not like motorways and you take longer than you think, and it gives you the freedom to go where you want and stop where you want.
