I am searching for a lost Irish pen pal. Where can I post my ad to find him?

In the days when we had no Internet and we used a pen and paper to correspond, over 25 years ago, I had an Irish pen pal, Alan. I lived in Japan at the time and I visited him while he stayed in Germany and then visited his family in Kilmainham, Dublin. I think it was 1984 or 85. I lost my address book after I moved to the US and lost touch with him. Where in Ireland can I contact to find him or his family, perhaps by posting a personal ad? Alan and I are in our 40s and I am not sure if he often uses the Internet. And I don't know the school he went. I live in the US and don't know much about the resources in Ireland.
Additional Details
I don't like disclosing personal information here (this is the reason I deleted my first question). Alan's surname is Cleere. He lived in Kilmainham, Dublin, 25 years ago with his family. His father passed away several years after I visited them. Last time I contacted him, in late 1980', he was working at a travel agency, I think. Alan should be in his mid 40s now. I don't know if he still lives in Dublin. If any of you could look up a phone directory, etc., I would appreciate very much. I may contact the radio show or the newspaper y'all suggested. I have too little information about him and can't use any of the "friends" websites.

If you could give his second name I could find him in the directory enquiries for you. Everyone in Ireland is in it so it would be pretty easy for me to find him for you. just email it to me and I could try that nd then email it to you.

nana .know it all
you only have to post once others will see this and advise Friends reunited

Try an ad in the Evening Herald newspaper.....or put a letter in the letters page of that paper. It's based in Dublin.

Well social networking sites should be your first stop - something like facebook or friendsreunited. You don't need to know the school, just his name, approximate age and roughly the area. If not, maybe a site that specialises in electoral roll searches if you know his surname. Depends what part of Ireland too - Northern which would come under UK (192.com would probably have records for that part) or Republic - you can always google for electroal search services. I don't think posting an ad will get you much joy.
