Donegal or Kerry would be "real Ireland", still as far as I'm concerned, very traditional but "touristy" enough that you will see some great sights. It all depends what you actually want to do on holiday?
County Clare has some beautiful scenery, the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher in particular, so does the SW of Co. Cork around Timoleague and Bantry. You will find great pubs with friendly local people in every town in the land.
Check out http://www.discoverireland.ie/ for a few ideas ? |

Ballykissangel is in Wicklow in the southeast of Ireland, its real name is Avoca.
As for the Quiet Man, thats in West of Ireland, in a place called Cong, with some parts near Clifden, Galway.
However, if you want to go to the south, then try Scull in West Cork, its beautiful down there, however I have a soft spot for Co Clare (again in the west), esp Doolin and Ballyvaughan |

There is no such place as Southern Ireland. You refer to it as either Ireland or the Republic of Ireland. Calling it 'southern Ireland' does not make you any friends here.
Ballykissangel is shot in the village of Avoca, County Wicklow. It's a real place.
The Quiet Man? I'm afraid you're out of luck, Ireland has moved on from those days, mate. Just enjoy Avoca, and get out of the Disneyland mindset. |
