well do the ring of kerry around the lakes you can take in the beautiful scenery, also go to Muckross House for a peek. If you go to Cork, go specifically to Kinsale it is stunning & has fabulous restaurants. Go to Cobh it has an excellent historical site to see where the famine ships left Ireland for the US google it to see if it is open while you are here, Ireland shuts down for New Years day & heritage sights may not be open on the 2nd to the 4th, do check online first. If they are all closed you will just have to drive around and take in the scenery! Pubs and restaurants will be open so you wont be hungry!

West cork is very beautiful. Loads of great scenery and things to do. It's not very built up and there is a great atmosphere where ever you go. I would suggest staying in a little village like union hall and you will be in a very reasonable distance of every where. It's about a 3 hour trip to kerry from west cork.
Good luck in your travels.

The Shadow
I don't suggest Cork. It is a fairly large city and there are much nicer places to visit. On my last visit, I flew into Cork Airport and immediately headed for the countryside.

I suggest driving west along the southern coast, including Kinsale, through the Bantry area to Kenmare. The Dingle Peninsula and the Ring of Kerry are also very nice drives.

You won't be able to hit all of the high points in only three days, so I suggest getting your self a good travel guide and selecting a reasonable itinerary based on what interests you.
