Hon, things would be a million times worse if you moved to a country where you don't speak the language. It is a very difficult thing to do, very lonely, and it takes at least a year to adjust and learn enough of the language to get by.

What you could do is try to find new friends here while you finish off your basic education. A good way to do that is to take up a new interest or join a club. Seeing as you're interested in moving to Spain, why not check your local tech or college and see if they offer evening courses in Spanish? Or if you live in a college town put up an ad in the student's union asking for a language exchange partner - a Spanish person who can practise speaking English with you and teach you some Spanish in return for free?

It will be much easier to get a job in Spain if you have finished your Irish education first, and even easier if you can handle at least the basics of the language before you move there.

If you're being bullied at school, make sure that the right people know about it - a trusted teacher, your parents etc. If school just isn't working out for you, maybe try to speak to a guidance counsellor at a different school and see if you could switch? There are lots of different programmes you could try, like the LCA or an apprenticeship preparation course, where you don't have to go to a 'normal' school and where you might meet people with similar experiences to yours.

Don't leave Ireland before you're at least 18 if you can - its a difficult thing to do without support and there are a lot of people out there who would jump at the chance to take advantage of a young Irish girl new to the country.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

You're 16 - you can go anywhere you like and get a job now, or get educated. From Ireland I went to England at 16 and Holland at 17 and I just got back from America last year. You could do a college course instead of school this Sept and make new friends there. What's the big deal about Spain anyway? Sure, our weather here is crap, but otherwise Ireland's lovely! Move if you're unhappy - but let me assureyou of this: unless you take a job that has a lot of English speakers, moving to a country that doesn't speak your language is a Very Lonely thing until you learn to communicate. School can be rubbish - don't let it get to you too much, just leave as soon as you can but seriosuly do get and education somewhere else (and lrn 2 spl!) ♥

Hate to say it, but 16 is sort of a terrible age, anywhere. It's an awkward time of adjustment for everyone. You likely feel very vulnerable to teasing and bullying - which the bullies are taking advantage of. Just keep in school and then you will have the most options available to you when you are university age. Try to develop reserves of inner strength to get you through - what are you good at? Work on your goals/hobbies and it will give you focus - whether writing, art, performance....hone your skills and interests. School is over before you know it and you won't have to deal with the local mean people forever. Just stick it out till University - much better in all ways than the school years leading up to it.

Getting your schooling done will lead to decent jobs, in Ireland or abroad - don't let bullies determine what you do or where you live.

Unless you speak Spanish at then you will not be able to study in Spain.

The good news is however that moving to Spain is very possible. I've just come back from Madrid after 2 years. However I can promise you this from experience of you are not happy with your life moving country will solve nothing.

At them minute you say you hate were you live, have no friends and get bullied. At 16 i can sympathize. Up until I was 16/17 I had no friends got bullied every day. I did have a job and didn't have any strong feelings one way or another with regards to where I lived but anyway to summarize like yourself I was miserable and fantasized about moving away, anywhere the further the better.

Then the strangest thing happened in my last couple of years of school I met people I liked started going met my first girlfriend etc and generally enjoying myself and most importantly growing in confidence.

Anyway to get to the point of my long winded story I wouldn't swap my past two years in Spain for the world but it didn't solve any of the personal issues I'm dealing and have dealt with, my lack of confidence, not having any friends and generally hating the way my life turned out.

So my advice to you would be this. If you have no friends ask yourself why this is?
I can honestly say that in Ireland I have one person outside my family I would consider a friend, and I haven't spoken to her in weeks. For me I know this is because that is who I am, I'd like to think I'm friendly and enjoy working with people but I love my own space and being with my family and generally don't trust people easily.
I can't tell you whay you have no friends or if you really want them only you can figure that out for yourself.

You have no job apply for one. Simple as that. Make up a CV and had it out.

You get bullied. Stand up to them. This is difficult to do let me tell you but believe me you'll thank yourself for it. All bullies are cowards and only pick on people because of their own insecurities. I only wish I had stood up to my bullies a bit sooner. If you find this difficult remember this in a year or so you never have to see these people again!

When you face you problems you may find you're quite happy living in Ireland or that you really do want to move but don't expect Spain to be a magic cure for life's problems. Look at the 150 people who lost there lives in that terrible plain crash in Madrid. Non of us know how long we have and life is too short to be feeling sorry for yourself.

Good Luck.

i was the same, just stick it out till you do youre leaving cert then you can make youre escape. dont worry though, just ignore the retarded bullies, they are weak, pathetic, bastards. they will get what they deserve in time.
just concentrate on school for now, and soon you will be on youre way to the airport .

Great answers above me. People here care. Your difficult time now will help you in the future. It will make you a stronger and nicer person. Hang in there . Make plans but dont stress too much. It will get better.

where you from?? why would you want a job a 16?? i've none either and i'm 16!!!

James Blake For President!
You could always go to a boarding school. They give you housing, education, and food. You also get a roomate so you'll be able to make friends. You can take a language course so you can learn more about Spain. And after semesters and during holidays you get to visit your parents in Ireland. It would be great for you.

I have a suggestion. Get a RETURN ticket to The Congo, Myanamar, Zimbabwe or better still...Iraq, then, if you manage to get back alive, I can gurantee you will LOVE IRELAND for the rest of your waking hours....
