SriLankan_in_UK

I have a UK work permit + visa, do i need another one to visit Ireland?

i'm working in London on a work permit. Would i need an additional one to visit Ireland?
Am pretty sure that Northern Ireland would be alright since it's part of the UK, but if i wanted to go down to the Republic, i'd imagine i need a visa. Right?

btw - my citizenship is Sri Lankan, if you couldn't figure that out from my username!

Please note that a Schengen or UK visa or residence permission is NOT valid for travel to Ireland. If you are a national of a visa-required country you will need to apply for an Irish visa in advance of travel to Ireland.

Sri-Lanka is not on the Irish list of countries whose citizens are visa exempted.

You will need a visa to visit the Republic of Ireland.

Yes you will need a visa for Ireland, but not for Northern Ireland, as you say, it is part of the UK.
The work permit is not valid for Ireland.

You could of course, slip across the border without a visa, but I would not advise this.

Yes you will need a visa. It should not be a problem obtaining one.

Travel between the countries is not checked for nationals of Ireland and Britain. You're not a national citizen of Britain or Ireland.

yes if you are not from a country in the eu!

but to visit you only need a visitors visa

Yes - u would need another visa for the Republic - unlees your current visa is for the EU - in which case you would be OK.
