Sher we still use the newspaper.
We especially like to use Fiona Looney's page in the Daily Mail.
We've also used her Dandelions script and her new 'play' October.
After we've finished with her stuff we move on to Kevin Myers and Fintan O' Toole. It gives us a certain feeling of satisfaction. |

I know a similar English old boy who doesn't use toilet paper either. These are probably two old eccentrics, doesn't mean their country was any more backward than another in acquiring toilet tissue.Toilet paper was in common use in both countries 50 years ago.Indeed Georgia-Pacific Ireland Ltd are one of the world's leading producers. |

Well 50 years ago would have been the late 50's and by that stage, toilet roll as we know it today would have been commonplace, but during the war I know from hearing from my grandparents that they used cut up sections of newspaper, but this practice by far was not limited to Ireland. |

Possibly. In fact, it's still quite common in some areas of the Middle East. This is why the left hand is considered "unclean". |

Hello, O yes it was called hand-me -down hanging on a nail was sacking to wipe hands on. And a rain water butt out side with bar of green soap with grit like stuff in it to was hands with. Eventually the wc contents buried in the garden. Water from butt fed the tomatoes. This was in the UK |

Some cultures find using toilet paper is dirty, unsanitary. My husband is in the Army, and when he was in Iraq, the locals didn't use toilet paper either. It's just part of their customs and beliefs. They use their hand, and a bottle of water. I'm not trying to offend anyone here, I'm just stating what my husband has told me, from his experiences. |
