The Irish have contributed a LOT to America. Bluegrass music has its roots in traditional Irish music. The Irish language gave us a lot of our slang as previously mentioned. The Irish pretty much built New York City. The Irish helped to populate America and it is estimated that about 9 million Irish emigrated here during the Great Famine (a famine caused by a fungus transported to Ireland from America) and my people were some of them... The Irish came over here and were treated abominably and were forced to do work nobody else would do. My grandfather recently passed on to me a "Irish Need Not Apply" sign from the 1800's plucked out of a store window by his grandfather (or so the story goes). Check out the book "How the Irish Saved Civilisation" by Thomas Cahill...

For language, check out 'How the Irish invented slang', a book released last year.
It details how a lot of Irish (Gaeilge) words found themselves into common American vocabulary, still used today.

Jack daniels whiskey.
he was from cavan. The americans spell whiskey like the irish , so it is a good bet where it came from, the scots spell it as whisky, without the e.
JFK, I think that was our best contribution to the states, his personal life might have been far from perfect but he started the race for the moon, handled the cuban missile crisis, way better than nixon could have had, had a lot of predudjice as he was a catholic, but one of the best presidents the states ever had.

St. Pats Day, potatoes, and whiskey. That about sums it up.
