O'Collins is O'Cuilleain or O'Coilean in Irish (two different families). It's a very old last name, and yes the name originated in Ireland.

For example;

However; just because you have a last name which is Irish does not necessarily mean you are Irish! It simply means you have irish ancestors. |

O'Collins as said already is an Old Irish name but it's not just a Regal surname it is also a very popular name amongst the traveller community of Ireland -

The O from O collins has been largely dropped in Ireland, so the name Collins would be a huge one, also look up Micheal Collins - an Irish hero to many. |
