I'm English and I've lived in Ireland for nearly 5 years. I've never had any job in the UK where I had to show my GCSE (O'level) results so I doubt you would have to here.
Your degree is a degree thats for sure, it is the same as if you took it here, but you may find you need to speak Gaelic to become a teacher here but I'm not sure on that. Teachers are being made redundant at the moment as we are in a recession and the stupid government is cutting back on schools and in particular special needs education. You may find it hard to get a job right now.
You don't need an Irish licence, your UK one is valid. You passport is valid, you will have to renew it at the British Embassy in Dublin when its due for renewal (costs a fortune my kids passports are due to run out in May) |

do GSCES count for anything in Ireland
Not really, you can get them acknowledged as equivalent to the Junior Cert, but since almost everyone here does the Leaving Cert (eqiv to A Levels), they don't count as much.
does an english teaching degree count in Ireland (will i get a job with it)
If you are a primary school teacher, you need to be certified to speak Irish. In theory, you can have a period of a few years to learn Irish to the required level of fluency if the school has another teacher who can teach your Irish lessons. In reality, many teachers are now finding themselves redundant, and so the schools who need a teacher have their pick, and will pick a teacher who can do everything.
what about my driving licnese it is english do i need an irish one
You can fill in a form and send the old one in to swap it.
and will my passport always stay english ?
Uh, if you are British citizen, you'll always have a British passport. Quite a few years down the line you might be able to naturalise as an Irish citizen, but even if you can and do, it will be an Irish passport that says you were born in England.
Just a suggestion
If you decide instead to teach in Northern Ireland, the rules are pretty much the same as they are in England. |

gcses are the same as our junior cert we then have a leaving cert which I think you call A levels,
depends on the degree if its the teach english as a foreign language bollox its no good here
your english driving liscense will be fine here
yes your passport will stay english we dont let just anyone become irish |

No more than our juniour cert, it;s the leaving cert or A levels that count
Unlikely, there are no teaching jobs here and if its primary school teaching you're after you need to pass a fluency exam in our language
Actually it will always stay British ( I think ye should have seperate passports but hey) |

I think you have been given all the correct answers to your question, but Your Grammar,Punctuation and Spelling disturbs me a little as you say you are hoping to get a job as a teacher! |

Well i amn't to sure but i think GSCE's are nearly equivalent to or a bit higher than a Junior Certificate in Ireland which is done normally when you are about 15. It does not count for much.
At the moment i don't think there is a great demand for teachers.. It is a recession so maybe it will blow over soon.
You can keep your English passport
You can use your English drivers lisence aswell. |
