A passport may seem expensive but in the long term as a means of ID and proving beyond all reasonable doubt you are a British citizen it is invaluable. Get one, it may handier then you think.

Jas B
UK citizens do not require a passport or visa to enter Ireland, almost all carriers by air or sea now require some form of identification with photograph, usually a passport or driving licence with photo.

pollbee
you can apply for a national i.d card from your local post office in England with your photo in it and it only costs about 10 pounds, much cheaper than a passport and you can use it on flights and boats.SO hurry down to the p.o.

Why cant you buy a passport ?

do ya have a drivers licence this should do fine.ya need picture id.

agooddub
If you intend to travel here by air, you will need a passport.
If you intend coming by ferry, you will need photo ID.
Your birth cert. is sufficient to register for an RSI number when you arrive, because without an RSI number, you won't get a job.

dugs
passport will make life easier ,photo ID needed for most things ,bank account getting work and so on.

If you want to move and live in Ireland - which is a big commitment, get a passport, why even ask such a question??

If you are flying or coming here by boat you MUST have photographic ID. The ONLY acceptable photo id you can use are 1) A Passport or 2) a current drivers licence.
Why do you not have a pasport? Go to your post office today and get the forms and fill it in. EVERYONED should have a passport whether they are travelling or not as it is the most acceptable form of ID. If you want to live in Ireland you should start looking up websites to organise how you go about working here. You will need a PPS number, similar to your national insurance number and you will need an Irish adress to apply for one. You should also look into opening an Irish Bank Account and what you will need for that.
Go get the passport forms it wont take too long this time of year to get one.
