I would like to know more about ireland and the people?

I visited. They are people like anywhere else. If you grandfather is in to his cultural heiritage then just ask him when you get there. He will probably be thrilled to tell the next generation all about it. :) Ask to see the Cliffs of Mohar and/or the Burren region. The cliffs are AWESOME and the Burren region is all about Ireland history. If you are still worried about it...just look up Ireland history in a search engine.

Hi.....you didnt give much information so its kind of a stab in the dark!
Did your Grandfather say what county he was from?....The East tends to be more urban, while the west is very old and rural

There isnt many "culture rules"
Just one thing....It really gets on Irish peoples nerves when Americans claim to BE irish or calling the irish culture "my" culture....just because they have irish ancestory
Im not trying to be mean...but its something that annoys us about americans and i want you to avoid it!

Try to be a a bit different from the "ignorant american tourist"...
But in fairness, the fact that youre asking about the culture shows that youre NOT like that ;)
I think you might find our sense of humour is quite different.....irish people slag (pick on) each other all the time....but its usually a form of affection lol

If you really want to experience "old" ireland, i think you should go to the West (fly to Shannon Airport)

i have family who live in a town there called Ballyvaughan....and its absolutely beautiful
There, i think your best bet is to stay in a thatched cottage and visit the little pubs and restaraunts by the sea - theres often live music.
Theres also lots of cool scenic things there too....Cliffs of Moher, The Burren, Birds of Prey Sactuary etc....

Just remember that even if you meet people who you think are "typical irish" dont treat them as if they're stupid or "behind the times" or whatever, because i can assure you they are most likely not!
(not saying you would do this, but just in case!)

You be yourself and be friendly and you'll fit in just perfectly!

It's a very rich culture, with amazing Celtic music, Irish dancing and breathtaking sights.
