everywhere in ireland is a tourist friendly place dublins great though!!!!!

I definitely agree with landing at the Shannon airport. The people there were very friendly and its easy access to Co. Clare, which I highly recommend. The Burren is like nowhere on earth. Besides checking out the dolmens, try to get up to the Poulawack Cairn (there's a turn to it off the R480 that shoots up the middle of the Burren). It's a bit of a hike over the limestone floor of the Burren but well worth it. If you're really adventurous, stop in the Burren Centre in Kilfenora and get some of the Burren maps. We went out exploring with the maps and a compass and found some really out of the way and amazing sites. While in Kilfenora, stop in to see the high crosses and have lunch at Linnane's Pub. Great place! Home of the Kilfenora Ceili band. If you're interested in staying in Clare, I highly recommend checking out the Fuschia Cottage near Kilfenora. Great self-catering cottage, lovely people.

I also recommend visiting the Aran Islands, Yeats Tower in Galway, Galway City (such a lovely place), and getting out to Doolin or Galway City to check out some of the music. Kilfenora also has a ceili once a week or so I believe. Great fun!

POCKET JOKERS - THE DARKSIDE
Galway is very tourist friendly. It's a tidy city with great culture and pubs, you won't be dissappointed!

Faranfore airport is in Kerry. It's only 20mins away from Killarney, the hub of tourists in Ireland.Kerry is the place to go as a tourist.

Up the Kingdom!!

Fly into Shannon airport for sure, which is in county Clare in the west of Ireland..it'll give you better access to the best parts of Ireland compared to the other major international airport in Dublin, in the east.
You'll get a lot of info on the web eg discoverireland.ie but in summary the places i would recommend are;
-travel around county clare, lisdoonvarna, lahinch(great surfing!), cliffs of moher(beautiful scenery) to name but a few
-kerry in the south is beautiful also, ring of kerry, lakes of killarney, the town killarney is a good base in my opinion. There is beautiful scenery in kerry
-galway(my home town!!) is also a must, a beautiful city, small and very welcoming, many old sights to see
-aran islands off the coast of galway is also a must
-if you have time county donegal is also beautiful
All of these are on the west coast and as an irish person..born and bred and extremely proud of it I really recommend you visit the places listed If its our beautiful countryside you want to sample.

Enjoy :)

Helper
There are several tourist places in Ireland and to help you best discover what they are, here is a website that we Irish as well as tourists to our country use to make choices on places and importantly social events. When you decide on a time window that you would like to come, check out the events.

http://www.discoverireland.ie/

The place is beautiful and the people are wonderful!

The logistics, including which airport to fly into, can fall into place when you find an event that you would like to see or be part of and / or a place that you would really like to visit!

Whatever your choice could be - enjoy each moment of the trip! :)

!TreeHugger!
Killarney in Co.Kerry is really touristy, actually, nearly all of it is directed towards tourists!!! There is plenty of stuff to do there, and around Killarney also.

If you really want to experience "old" ireland, i think you should go to the West (fly to Shannon Airport)
....County Clare
i have family who live in a town there called Ballyvaughan....and its absolutely beautiful
There, i think your best bet is to stay in a thatched cottage and visit the little pubs and restaraunts by the sea - theres often live music.
Theres also lots of cool scenic things there too.
The burren (take a look at the Dolmens, theyre incredible!), the Ailwee caves, The cliffs of Moher.
Theres also a "birds of Prey" sanctuary near the Burren - worth a visit.
In Lisdoonvarna (Clare) i think, theres a nice aquarium and if you want to do some shopping you can go to Ennis.
The people are SO friendly there and so proud of the County- the accents are crazy too lol.

i defo think you should go for a thatched cottage in Clare.....theyre self-catering....and much more memorable than a B&B or hotel!
heres a link for accomodation
http://www.irishcottageholidays.com/acco...
If you want a really cheap holiday, Ireland certainly isnt your ideal destination.....but it is well worth it
On the other hand, in comparison to most places in Ireland (such as Dublin), the west is a lot cheaper.

Hope you have a great trip!
