I'm from America and all my life I have wanted to move to Ireland! My people were from Roscommon and I want to go back. Don't get me wrong. I love the U.S. and would die for it if need be, but I want to go home. Can you understand that? Too many of our people had to leave at one time or the other. Maybe some of us can return though we're not Irish-born.

I've only ever lived in one place (a small-ish town in western New York state) so I may not have anywhere else to compare life to, but I really like living where I do. I'm in college, and work too, at min. wage, which is $7.15 an hour in this state. People only live off of tips if they're in a job where tips are expected; if you work at these jobs, sometimes the hourly pay is like $3.50 to $4 an hour, because it is assumed you will make sufficient money in tips.

To make loads of money here, I'd suggest lawyer, doctor, architect, engineer, businessperson, economist (especially now!)... stuff like that.

Hope this helps some:-)

America is the land of opportunity.

Lots of people make money from tips.

Bartenders might make around 2-3 euro an hour as their wages. You might think that is low and it is but then they get the tips.

Typicaly this is around 15-20% of what they sell. So every beer they hand over they typicaly can get 1 dollar tip.

How many beers could you serve in a hour?

I have known bartenders or ever waitresses who can make 500-1000 euro a day!!!

Disney WORLD!
You were not obligated to tip! tip for excellent service!

Don't rub it in! just because the EURO is stronger than the $$$$!

Why not apply for a work visa and work for Walt Disney (EPCOT) here in the
U.S. of A. ?!

Okay, being from America and currently living in the UK, I can tell you that America is not expensive (compared to what we're used to in Europe). It is very good to live in America; there are so many opportunities. The money can be good depending on what you do. I'm not sure what the current min wage is, but don't depend on the government to make a living (the social support system doesn't give out near as much as the UK and Europe, but the States don't pay near as much tax either).
Tipping is expected because the minimum wage can be considerably lower for someone who can claim tips.

Don't live in California because its really expensive to live there.Mostly every big city is really expensive soooo.....ya....it is expensive to live here.

If you were in Orlando you were at Disney World not Disney Land which is in California. You can make a lot of money from tips..if you need a second job or you do not have a family to support you can make a decent living.
