It depends on where you are going, because different destination country requires different period of passport validity after the last day of the trip.
If the destination is somewhere in the EU/EEA or US, then it's fine, because the requirement is that the passport is valid during the duration of the travel. Afterall Irish travellers can travel to these countries on visa-waivered basis, and there is an agrement in place between US and Ireland for travel as long as the passport is valid. |

Not sure, some countries want passports to have 6 months validity on them, phone your passport office and they'll tell you. |

Yes your child can still travel on the passport provided you are visiting a country that doesn't require a visiting visa. In such a situation, your child's passport must have a 6 months validity period. |

some places want you to have a clear 6 months left , i don't know why they do that , my son had to get a new one last year because he only had three months left i don't know if every where is the same |

It depends, on which country you would like to visit, if u do or do not require a visa in the country your are visiting, and which are the countrys passport requirements.
