If you go to Ireland from the UK can you use your driving licence instead of a passport?

Yes you can.
The only time I ever had to show any id was going from Swansea to Cork on the ferry, I had a passport but my son just had a birth cert. There is some sort of agreement with the two governments.

I have travelled several times by plane and never been asked for a passport.

you don't need a passport to enter the south of ireland [last time I went] however there was talk of putting the passport controls back after 70 years of free passage so the best thing would be to check with whoever is taking you there the airline or the ferry

yes - and vice versa! [ferrys anyhow!!]

I send drivers all over the world in all sorts of vehicles and this particular route can be done using a picture driving licence

hope this helps

:o)

Yes driving licence will do for both northern ireland and republic of ireland. I think you have to be an Irish or British citizen though

As far as I am aware you can travel from UK to Ireland with a driving licence.

Note - If you enter via Northern Ireland (a country of the United Kingdom) you can cross border very easily to the republic. There are no boarder checks any more.

If you're talking about Northern Ireland then you just need photo ID and a driving licence is fine.

If it's the Republic you're talking about - it's another country so you need a passport, in theory. But you rarely get asked for it.

I wanted to kno this, but the other way round.
Please let me kno when you find out! :)

I've heard you can but I've never done this myself.

no you don't have some sort of agreement, you have to be a UK or Irish citizen though

Yes you can... ireland. you can also fly to scotland on your driving licence too.

Of course not. Can you go to Japan from Uk on a driving license only? Same thing. Only if you go to Northern Ireland which is part of Uk can you go with driving license. Southern Ireland is a foreign country like Japan. or France etc. Be smart.
