Im flying to Derry in a few weeks, but want to stay in Donegal?

We are only there for 3 days so we don't want it to be too far from the airport as we will be relying on public transport.

They're about 20 minutes away from each other.

= )

donegal is close to derry only about 20 - 30 minutes r so away

naw ladybird he mean derry ;)

robin H
There is no airport in Londonderry. There is however a City of Derry airport...so I reckon that you ARE flying to Derry.

Well Donegal isn't too far away - only about 10 miles to the border county. Depends on where you want to stay in Donegal tho.

Claire
Yeah donegal is only 20 mins or so away (letterkenny) which is where ya should head buses are only like 7.50euro return from derry!!!

For those of you who don't know, a political compromise concerning the Derry/Londonderry question was reached a long time ago: it's the city of Derry in the County of Londonderry.

Donegal is right beside Derry, so I don't imagine you'll have any problem finding a place close enough for comfort. I'm not sure what public transport is in Donegal, but if it's anything like other parts of Ireland, don't expect much.

There is an airport at Carrickfin in Donegal not far from Derry. Your nearest town would be Letterkenny I think, but to really appreciate Donegal you could stay not far from the airport in one of the beautiful seaside places. If you fly to Derry then Letterkenny is not far and the transport will be plentiful being a town. I am English but visit there often.

Ha ha ha. Public Transport in DONEGAL? No.

Donegal is a beautiful place and i would recommend hiring a car, as otherwise you will be getting buses, and depending on your flight schedule it might not be the nicest way to travel. If its just 3days, hiring a cr would give you the flexability.
I would recommend heading up towards Shrove/Moville area on the north east side of Donegal. Beautiful scenery.
Otherwise if you can make it head to Letterkenny.
Buses are available from the bus stop in Derry itself, but you will need to check times
check http://www.craicon.com/moxie/1/swilly-bus-schedule.shtml for some timetable.. just an example

There's an airport bus(regular service) takes you from Derry to Letterkenny in Donegal the main large town.Takes about 20 to 30mins.Welcome to Donegal. It's my County. No seriously I own it.LOL

Note; When in Donegal refer to it as Derry.Infact always do so.

If you are relying on public transport - I'd stay in Derry. Just take day trips to Donegal and the surrounding areas. Donegal and Derry are very close, but you will need a car in Donegal. Having travelled in the area - I can't really say that there is much in the way of public transport.

ask the pilot when you are over Donegal and if it would be ok to parachute out

ladywoodboy
