They are not going to pay attention to you as they drink most of the time they are used to see people drunk

They'll check your ID, my dear. The law in Ireland has become very strict on underage drinkers. You won't be able to do much.

Of course they are. It's rather insulting because Irish people aren't drunken idiots who drink all the time and who'd let you do whatever.
If you look 18 or older they might not bother thinking you're old enough, but if not then no bars honey :)

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge

Are who going to care? Your parents? The US government? The Irish government? Society in general?

We've got bigger fish to fry sonny.

You could look 71 and they'd still want I.D.

At your age, a bouncer (door supervisor), would have the ability to smell the baby products your mother put on you to stop that nasty nappy rash! Sorry, couldn't help myself:-)
Just keep in mind that things are very strict here. The police (Garda) don't take any prisoners when it comes to drink related incidents. Ireland has changed a lot over the last 10 years. You can still have a good time and enjoy yourself, but your chances of getting pis*ed in any bar is slim to none.

They are getting very Strict now in Relation to underage Drinking in Ireland. Undercover Police Agents go around Different Pubs and Clubs all round the Country hoping to catch Bar Staff Serving Teenagers.

I am not saying it does not happen anymore, but Staff are very Cautious about who they Let in and would only do it by Accident.

Years ago A Large Group of Young French Students from 10 up to 17 Together with two Minders A Fella and Girl of around 21and Irish Descended on a Large Pub in Some Town in Kerry. It was in Summer Time and the Weather was Beautifully Warm and it was around 8 pm , The Pub was Crowded at the time. The two Minders got offside to the other End of the Bar well away from their Charges so as not to be Implicated if they were found out. The Students Pooled their Resources ,most had these Little Purses in which they started to take out bits of Coinage 50 p 10p 2p 1ÂŁ and Sent the Biggest and Oldest up to get the Drinkies. It was Hilarious Watching them a lot of them looked like 10 or 12 Years Old. We got Talking to some of them and one was an Exceedingly Beautiful Girl of 16.
As I said the Place was Packed out and the Pints was Flying off the Counters. I dont think you could get away with that now. That was around 30 Years ago in either Kenmare or Dingle or Tralee County Kerry.
Even that time they were Quite Strict in the Centre of Dublin, but the Further you went away from the City and down the Country the more you were Likely to get away with getting in to Pubs and Clubs.

Jesus do any of you people live in Ireland? as anyone who was ever 17 will tell you it aint very difficult to get into a pub unless you look nervous and very young. you must have an id though, unless you look quite old and are prepared to get refused many times before you are let in somewhere. the law is strict here, so no one will just let you off, but if you look reasonably like your id and have the date of birth memorised you'll definitely get in somewhere.
rozzie what planet are you on? how is this insulting?
and whichever idiot suggested they ID everyone regardless of how old they look is probably getting their information from a government website or something, and even at that you're only legally required to produce ID up to 21.

best advice is have an id that looks like you, know the date, and doorstaff start at 8 in most cases so get in before and try the youngest barman. and avoid dublin, for so many reasons...

You will need to show your passport or some form of I.D. if you are under 18.

you have to be over 18

my sister is 25 and they still ask her for I.D

im a bouncer/security in pubs.....
i also ask people for id who look under 21...
most pubs in ireland are strict on id..
now im not one for lettin in under age but kids use fake id's and use make up but most of time they can b found out..
easier way of gettin in is try to be mature and relaxed and hope for the best...dont flirt with them..

Like a Fox
Certain pubs won't ask for I.D put that is usually only in small town pubs, but most large bars/clubs especially in Dublin city centre will ask for I.D and are quite strict about it. Don't think that because this country has a drinking culture that places are lenient.

you will not be served alcohol without proper ID, i work in a bar and ther is no way you would be served without it, most places are the same, you would be lucky to find a bar to serve you without ID, the laws here are very strict on underage drinking.

wendylilly
realistically, no.

Well, I go to Ireland every year and although I stay in Dublin, I only went out in a little town called Gorey, not even sure thats how its spelt. I was 16 and my cuz was 17 and we both got dressed up and looked older but still didnt get in to any of the clubs. We got into the first bar we tried, got served, got pissed. It all depends where you go, but as others have said, its more strict in the big cities.

Have fuuuuuun ;p

No they nearly always ask for ID, unless they know you sometimes they just let you in then.

nethnee
they are very strict in clubs there you must have id and proper dress attire shoes and decent jacket they do not let you in if you are wearing runners. its unlikely that you will get served in the city bars but publicans are alot more relaxed out in the country and in small villages they dont always ask for id. good luck i hope you enjoy yourself here and be sure to try a pint of guinness
