As Orla C said, we are currently experiencing a downturn at the moment, so jobs are a lot scarcer now than they used to be.

As far as I am aware, since Romania and Bulgaria joined the EU, citizens of either of these countries require work permits is they wish to work in Ireland, unlike all the other EU countries, so you would need to look into this before you come.

ignore some of the rudeness on here...he/she speaks very good english and is asking about opening a business or other employment and you lot are suggesting they're coming over here to sit on the streets and beg??

Anyway to answer your question, have a read of this http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/employment/migrant-workers/employment-permits/work_permits

http://www.entemp.ie/labour/workpermits/bulgariaromania.htm

it seems that you will need a work permit, which if so you would need a special skill to be granted. Something that a company cannot find an irish person to do. The economy here is really bad right now tho, so it will be even harder.

Orla C
At the moment I would not advise moving to Ireland, because global economic downturn has affected employment prospects here.

Times are hard - - everywhere, and from what I know of Roumania, times are very hard there and I understand you want to move but when time are hard, jobs are hard to find, and when work is hard to find people become very selective - - they close ranks and leave anyone who is different out of the magic circle. It's the same everywhere.

If you can set up in business and employ others you will be more acceptable but won't necessarily be more included socially.

You probably already know that you will need a work permit and that work permits are issued only on a short term basis AND that you can only get it extended if you are providing an essential service. So, even if you moved to Ireland and got a work permit and got work, there's no guarantee of long term work and so you would not necessarily be able to emigrate from Roumania to Ireland.

Sorry it's not better news but, it is what it is.

Wow after reading so many negative comments I am even reconsidering moving to Ireland.
I have to say as an Aussie girl travelling to Ireland last year made it my favourite destination because I found everyone so friendly.

I want to move there in May & hoping to get any temp work I can to allow me to support myself while I am there. But no one is filling me with any confidence.

I do hope I don't run into the nasties that have posted on this page.

To those Irish people that enjoy being around & nuturing those from other countries, keep up the good work and stay true to who you are.

I have been telling everyone that will listen that the Irish are the friendliest race on the planet - I hope that ideal is not crushed.

Avoid this country of overpriced racists. Go anywhere else. If you are not Irish they treat you as a dirt. Ireland is a fascist far right state and EU should do something to drop them out. Not to mention how many Irish there are right now in my homeland. We shouldn't accept them, we should leave them starving.

Ireland for the Irish (as they wish) and without money of course.

You Irish guys are so obsessed about Romanians. Not all the immigrants are like that. We are not all that bad. But be sure we will leave soon. Fact no one wants to live in that dreadful island.

Just a little bit of Irish racism

Said:
"we need to be welcomed everywhere for that"... I am sorry you are not welcomed in my country after that. I will treat you as you treated me. Got it?

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge
Sher we like the Romanians. Our city streets would be quiet without listening to their accordion playing and sher if you're looking for a rose to impress a woman at 3 in the morning you can always get one from one of our Romanian friends.

Must one seek employment??

How else are you going to support yourself??

We have 320K of our own looking for employment at the moment, I really don't see the benefit of moving to Ireland?

As far as I am aware, as a member of the EU, you are free to come and go as you please in Ireland, there is no restrictions.

Any Romanian person I have ever encountered in Ireland has either been a beggar or a thief. FACT!! I understand that most of them are Romany gypsies though......

Are you a gypsy? If you are, don't bother coming here, we have enough gypsy's of our own.......

If you are, on the other hand, an upstanding citizen, willing to contribute to OUR society, then come on over.......

Although, there are practically NO jobs here, and you won't be entitled to dole money, so I don't know how you will support yourself.

Well, I hope you don't plan on sponging off our system, I certainly don't take too kindly to people plonking themselves here for me to pay taxes and cover them....we're in serious trouble with money already. Plus, we're in a really bad situation with the recession. Very few jobs available.
