I will kick myself for revealing this tomorrow, but the best place to visit (apart from Clare) is Allihies just a hairs breadth from Castletownbere Co Cork (my bolt hole - I go there for the peace and tranquillity, it has to be one of the most unspoiled pieces of our land.
I have travelled the world and savoured their delights and for that I am grateful, but I still keep coming back to Allihies for my chill time, as the man said - it's simply the best.
I absolutely love it there - not commercial and no crap just home from home.
The sunsets in September are to die for. |

Athlone.
if you're looking for something, and after hours of searching for it all over the place, you eventually find it right in the middle of everything.
that goes for Athlone. look all over Ireland for a town that's large enough to cater for your needs in a modern fashion, but still small enough so you don't get lost. a place where the city atmosphere mixes with the culchie people.
welcome to Athlone, the gateway to the West, and the heart of you. |

I'm from Dublin but I think the Ards Peninsula in County Down is a beautiful area. It doesn't get much advertising down here and I'm sure my Northern cousins are familiar with it, but it has the wow factor.
Look it up. |

The Fermangh Lake District or that area in Down around the Mourne mountains. The Sperrins are quite spectacular too. In the Republic there's the Slieve Blooms. |

Now if I was to tell you that, it would not be a secret anymore, now would it.
There are Fabulous walks here, but that is no secret.
Invest in a pair good of wellingtons and you get to see the best part of Ireland
Good Luck |

Castle Ward in N. Ireland. Its amazing. A retreat by the sea, full of history, forest, castles, houses, wild life, gardens, walks and life. You can stay there bed and breakfast and leave invigorated for ever. |

I'm quite proud to have the Mournes, the Dromarans, and the Belfast Hills in view from my house in County Down. The Mournes would be the preferred option there, but sure everyone knows that thanks to Percy, though Newcastle's a bit tacky. There's a lot of ruins and history up here.
Donegal's a nice place, as said above somewhere, and Westport in Mayo was brilliant I thought - so relaxin. Around the centre of the island's got the best ground - Athlone's more or less in the centre (good advertisement btw), and the West would be more untouched by commercialisation.
You're likely to find history in the countryside all over the island if that's what you're lookin for. |

Like Scream said Allihies is a picturesque village located in the Beara peninsula in west cork. The peninsula itself is beautiful and you'd never be bored. For more information check out

I would say the top of Kinnity Mountains, (need a good reliable car to get there) Offal/Tipperary, once you have walked to the very top you can do a 360d circle of what looks like all of Ireland, on a clear day it looks like you can see the whole country...amazing |
