MANGO FACE

Ireland:Can I claim Job Seekers Allowance and move in with my partner who's also claiming the same?

Just wondering if a couple can both claim the dole and live together? Will our payments get affected?
This is without asking for any rent supplement or anything.
Additional Details
ok but what if we got a 2 bed place and said we are not a couple what would happen?

If you claim as a couple you get €204 for one of you and €135 for the other.

So in total €339 as a couple.

If you claim separately you get €204 each.

So in total €408.

So if you claim as a couple you'll be €68 worse off.

However you will have to get a 2 bedroom place if you want to claim separately, theres every chance the extra €68 will be eaten up by the cost off renting a 2 bed over a 1 bed place. You might be better off claiming together and taking a cheaper 1 bed in the end.

yes u would still be entitled whether its a friend or boyfriend but i think u would be classed as a couple if ur ina relationship with them and receive the couples rate rather than individual rates.

yes you can but yes you're right. you will be deemed to be "cohabiting as a married couple" and assessed so. loss of 10 - 15% of the total worth of your seperate claims i think is the usual. but each new claim is assessed in its own right (i dont know you or your exact circumstances.....

Hi Mango, I'd nearly come clean, cos the government have stated they're coming down like a ton of bricks on anyone "pulling the piss outta the system", you won't be cut in half, but you'll be rated as a couple, and you can get rent allowance until ye're back on ye're feet. Plus, yourself and your boyfriends finances should be put together if ye're moving into together considering the circumstances.
I think you'd be better off telling the truth, that way you won't be watching over your shoulder all the time

dont bother telling them youre going out, just say you are roomates, theyre not going to check your house to make sure you arent going out together, as long as your not married or have kids together . .screw it . .why should you have to!!

If you got a two bedroom place, you will have to prove that ye are not a couple, example sister, brother, cousins,so tough,we,re all in the same boat and have to take a cut,If your boyfriend is any way decent he will halve the money any way,Also you are entitled to rent allowance so claim it.Also you are committing fraud by cohabiting and claiming just for yourself and not divulging information that could in effect cause you to not get anything, there is enough fraud in this country as it is,so don,t be greedy and do the right thing, remember you can be prosecuted for not giving the right info, they do find out and are doing more so now.

Get your papers and documents in order first, before moving, or the dole office will tell you to get lost.
