The war was over ten years ago. Most answers state this. Some answers seems to want to relive their history and bring up ideas of a United Ireland but its over. The majority in North voted to stay British and thats it. Democracy. |

There are two parts to Ireland, The Republic (south) and Northern Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom.
There were what was called "The Troubles" these started in the 1960's. They involved open hostilities in Northern Ireland between the Catholics and Protestants and attacks by the Catholic IRA in Britain
The Catholic minority had been politically marginalised. This was largely a product of Northern Ireland's two-thirds Protestant majority, Police harassment, exclusion from public service appointments and other forms of discrimination were factors of daily life for the Catholic population.
Violence finally erupted in 1966 following the twin 50th anniversaries of the Battle of the Somme and the Easter Rising - touchstones for Protestant and Catholic communities respectively.
Rioting and disorder was followed in May and June by the murders of two Catholics and a Protestant by a 'loyalist' terror group called the Ulster Volunteer Force.
This lead to internment camps and bombings and many murders both in Northern Ireland and Britain.
In the mid 1980's there started a political solution which though it has stalled and had problems has bought and end to the violence.
With regard to The Republic of Ireland although the majority of the population is Catholic it stayed out of the conflict.
So at this time there is no fighting or war going on in any part of Ireland.

Someone put out the rumour that the Government was going to ration drink. Civil war has broken out, with everyone trying to stock up with gargle for Christmas. Even my grannie beat up my granda with a shillelagh last night 'cause he hid a bottle on poteen under the statue of Our Lady in the bedroom. |

no we're not
not now anyway
if you mean the Troubles that went on in the 60s, we fought because the english stole our land
and still have it and we MUST get it back
but peacefully.
my idea is that on the sunniest day in the year, we get all the people(and I mean ALL) from the South to have a picnic in the North.
a giant sit-in would fix it
:D |

not fighting anymore but the english had taken over all of ireland and would only allow 26 counties out of 32 to be free of english rule and the people in the north who are under british rule had differences with each other like religion and culture ect.!! |

It is over now, but around 20 years ago The Republic and Northern Ireland were having an unofficial war. The IRA wanted Northern Ireland to be part of the Republic, whether's some of theNorthernn Irish wanted to be part of Britain. Hope this helps!!!!! |
