I've been to Scotland twice and Wales once for vacation. Unfortunately haven't been to Ireland (yet!).

Scotland is an amazing destination with a lot to offer. We rented a car and drove all around the country, staying at B&Bs. Highlights from our trip include:
- Isle of Skye -- incredibly dramatic scenery of mountains and coastline. On the northern end of the island, sheep wander freely on the roads.
- Castle country in northeastern Scotland -- see everything from ruins to family castles. My favorite ruin is Dunnotar Castle -- you'll be amazed by the location on the sea and wonder how they even built that castle in the first place. My favorite tower castle is Craigievar (which is closed in 2008 for renovations). It's fully furnished with family heirlooms, has a great tour, and is extremely photogenic. Many castles in the area (such as Fraser) have beautiful gardens.
- Fife/St. Andrews -- beautiful countryside, home of golf, great restaurants
- Edinburgh -- historic castle on a hill, also the Queen's palace of Holyrood, gorgeous buildings on the Royal Mile, stop off at the Whiskey Center for a fun tour with a free tasting
- Falkirk Wheel -- in between Edinburgh and Stirling, engineering marvel that connects the waterways across Scotland. Ride a boat on the wheel or simply watch from below!
- Border Abbeys -- Breathtaking ruins of formerly powerful abbeys. Also, the home of Sir Walter Scott, a famous Scottish author, is nearby.

Agree that Wales is a bit of a lesser destination in comparison. (Apologies to the Welsh people). Southern Wales has a few castles and abbeys, including Cardiff Castle. Northern Wales has many impressive castles from the 1200s. Check out www.castlewales.com for more info. You'll be too early to catch Edinburgh at its best which is 'The Fringe' from August 3rd onwards. So instead try Glencoe as the views are breathtaking. Next onto Loch Awe and see Kilchurn Castle which has an eerie feel. Fort William is worth a day for the shops and then down to Oban. Oban has some traditional pubs to enjoy and there are various boat trips to take your fancy there.

Dont bother with wales BORING!!! Go to the west of Ireland and take in the music language and spectacular views.England sucks too.

well england is in the middle and it can be good too ie: london! im from ireland myself and i love it. dublin is an amzing city and the west of ireland is one of the most beautiful places in the whole world. scotland is good aswell as it has many major cities that are great fun. wales is still nice but from what ive seen and heard it isnt as good as the other countries. basically because any of the countries you will be visiting are that large (compared to other countries) youre never far from what you want, either the big city life or relaxing countryside.
