You're a qualified plumber Charlie, you and the better half get your @rses over to Australia. My youngest is on $1,700 a week doing industrial plumbing.Drives a big Ford Falcon, rents a nice bungalow with a barby and a pool. All that and wall to wall sunshine. What you waiting for?You know it makes sense and the MIL will be on the other side of the planet.:) |

Maybe she doesn't like you because you got her daughter up the duff and you haven't married her yet. ;-) |

Just for your info, my Irish MIL is WONDERFUL! She's been my MIL for nearly 20 years and I love her to bits. What is your MIL pressuring you about? How hard are you trying to find a job? Are you looking for anything just to bring money into the household or are you holding out for the perfect job for you? Are you actively looking for a job every single day? Are you contributing to the household in non-monetary ways, like doing chores and household repairs? If you're just laying around like a parasite, I can see where the mother would be upset. The honorable thing for you to do would be to take any job offered you just to get some money flowing into the house, marry your girlfriend and make an effort to pay back her mother for all the free meals, etc. you've eaten since you have been living with her.
EDIT: Mr. Plumber, it's interesting that you took offense at my suggestion that you might be laying around her house like a parasite. Guess I struck a chord there. Sometimes the truth hurts. Obviously you're just looking for someone to justify your pity party. No wonder she doesn't like you. |

Yeah, Podge & Rodge are right. In her eyes you have shamed her and her family. This is Ireland after all, it's not that long since unmarried mothers were sent away in shame to the convents. All she sees is that her daughter is pregnant by some unemployed bloke. Either take any job you can get until a plumbing job comes up, or marry your girlfriend. Your girlfriend maybe feels that way a bit too, it might be why she doesn't confront her mother, she maybe agrees with her. |

Yeah duck and podge & rodge right
Most irish mammy's want their kids married before startin families as they're really religious
Also the unemployed thing a bit of problem as older irish people always thinkin what everyone else might be sayin so from her view she sees
Daughter pregnant to unemployed man neighbours must be havin a right laugh
So if u had job or proposed might get her off ur back as for ur girlfriend never put her in a position to sort this out it may cause a rift just take the abuse and use it to inspire u on and have the satisfactory last laugh |

hiya,im from ireland, ohhh i can just imagine........but you know i think it happens all over the world....THE TOXIC MOTHER IN LAW.....but seriously your girlfriend needs to speak up and put her mam in her place..........this is seriously only going to get worse after ye have the baby, mammy toxic will have her nose stuck in everything....your girlfriend needs to tell her mam that if she doesnt accept you & respect you then ye will have no choice but to blank her from yer lives & i know its harsh but she also needs to tell her that if she wants anything to do with her grandchild she will have to respect the babies dad first.......sometimes you have to be a little over the top, that might get through to her....ooo best of luck & dont ley mammy toxic get to you :-) |

Irish people always have a bad temper. She also is scared that you might take her daughter away to here (America) where she does not get to see her that much. |
