Ireland drinking age?

Hellooo to people from Ireland! I am going to live in Ireland (Sligo) for 9 months and I'll be 17 the entire time. I know the drinking age is 18, but do people really pay attention/care whether you're officially 18?
Additional Details
It would be extremely helpful if the answers were from people who live in Ireland or have had an extensive visit

The minimum drink age is strictly enforced. No publican or off-licence establishment would risk their licence to operate to sell a pint to a minor.

deburca98
The dangers and side effects of underage drinking see above.
The bar owner could be brought to court, and or loose his license.
In the eyes of the law you are technically a child still. I have been out in sligo and believe me you are not missing much.

heya, im from ireland, 16 and its not really that much of a problem!! it depends the places you go! normally if you go to the city they're strict, but if u go to a local pub its not as bad, off license is your best bet, as they dnt check ur id if you look old enough, and if you dont look 2 old, u could always get a fake id!
have fun, and happy drinkin!!

Em
Some places will look for id, some places might just let you in. It depends how old you look really and if they're strict about checking on id.

You will get drink in some pubs and some stricter ones will ask you for i.d. but in general you will be able to get pissed

Yes. The bar owner could lose their licence or they could be prosecuted. So don't even think about it.
