Ireland isn't an independent country.

Ireland is an island in the Atlantic Ocean.

The Republic of Ireland is an independent country and has been since 1921.

Jeez guys...get over it. Not my fault that Ireland is an island. The question def. says Ireland - doesn't say the Republic of Ireland.

Always has been in our minds!

Is máith liom cáca millís!
We became known as the Irish Free State in 1921 but due to not having complete independence from Britan due to the treaty, and also cause the Irish Free State was only of the 26 counties we didn't become a Republic till 1949. The wait was for nothing cause the republic is only 26 counties!

EDIT: Claire Co is wrong!!
