This is a silly question Ireland has no oil, but I like it.
In the words of Colin Murphy to Jimmy Carr on the Panel. 'We could have the Americans. If they tried to shoot a missile at us (Ireland) they'd probably miss and hit you' (Britain).
Here's the clip: http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=nb8wVlph7Cc&feature=related

1. Because of the huge number of Americans who consider themselves Irish I would imagine there would be enough of a kerfuffle back in the States to see that if they ever did occupy Ireland there would be a swift withdrawal of American troops before the Amercian government would be over trown.
2. In a crunch I'd like to think Britain would give support if someone attacked Ireland even the US, like every other countries in the EU.
3. Ireland has a very decent reputation abroad unlike the US (sorry, sad but true), assuming the US were the aggressors I think the world would be on our side given the fact that we would be considered the underdogs. At the very least sancions and trade imbargos.
In short in the very unlikely chance the US invaded Ireland we'd destroy them (from the inside) in days which is quite impressive given the fact that we are a small neutral country with no army to speak of. |

If we went to war with America we would lose and no one would help us. If America went to war with us then all of Europe would go to war with them. |

I doubt very much that all of America would go to war with Ireland, don't forget there are 3 countries in N, America. I doubt if Mexico would go to war against ireland, nor Canada either. USA would probably not start a war with them either...Yes England I am sure would support Ireland, Canada and USA are both allies with England at the present moment but that does not guarantee anything, Things can change over night. |

If the USA decided to go to war against the Republic of Ireland we would be decimated.
Yes, the UK would back us, part of the UK is on the island of Ireland, we are their closest neighbour and there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Irish living in the UK - there is absolutely no way the US would be able justify a war against the Republic of Ireland, what do we have except a pit stop in Shannon for American troops, Barry's tea & the entire product line of Clonakility Food Co. The UK would have to back us for the simple reason, once the USA goes to war, it doesn't stop at one country does it?
I would imagine the EU would also come in behind the Republic of Ireland. |

Em... We don't have a proper army or weapons, none of our soldiers have ever been involved in live combat, we don't have an air force, we don't have any bombs.. We wouldn't last 30 seconds.

there is no what if, Ireland is a neutral country we would not go to war the irish people would never want to go to war against its allies.
There are no reasons for a war, therefore we have no possible avenues which would approach a war situation.
All the powers of the west have learned what war can do from the lessons learned in world war 2.
The two governments would negociate long before a war was declared and find a solution.
Western nations do not attack each other.
As for weapons if you have ever been to the Galway airshow and seen the American air force aircraft compared to the irish air core air craft then you would see who would be the winner.
1 Stealth bomber and 5 f18`s would be enough to decimate ireland. We have no any aircraft defence systems |
