Irish American that just discovered Luke Kelly.. He is like an Irish Bob Marley.. The man is fantastic!?

Anyone older here that actually went and seen him live back in the 70's or 80's? Did they ever actually give him a bronze statue in Dublin?
Here is my favorite:

Luke Kelly was originally one of the Dubliners, a group of Dublin singers and musicians. They were very popular and Luke was one of the most popular.

I saw them play several times and Luke was amazing live. His gravelly voice and the strength of it was just brilliant. I checked out the u tube bit and the picture of him was when he was quite young. The song is the Hot Ashphelt (asphalt). He played the banjo and often sang completely on his own.

Its really nice to know that someone young and across the Atlantic has discovered him. Sorry no statue though but there is a bridge named after him just outside the city centre in a place called Ballybough (Ballybok) on the north side.
Enjoy

Unfortunately Luke Kelly died before I was born so never saw him live. Still a massive fan though! Music like that transcends generations. There was talk about erecting a statue to him on Sheriff St. (his birthplace) as far back as 2004: http://www.anphoblacht.com/news/detail/7224. There was even more talk about it when the Phil Lynott statue was unveiled off Grafton St. But no statue as of yet as far as I know.

Podge and Rodge Tribute Band
If ya think he's good you should check out George Murphy. He's ten times better!
(You'll find him working in Tescos in Tallaght)

His song 'scorn not his simplicity' is truely amazing isn't it.
