Irish Parents; Would you let your daughter to this match? |
Would you let your 16.5 year old daughter go to Limerick for the day during the summer to a Ireland (Rep.) vs Norn Iron (Northern Ireland) soccer match with a group og 7 or 8 lads and 2 or 3 girls?
They're all respectable teenagers, though the lads are a little typical teenage boys in that they love an adventure! Your daughter is really good friends with all the group and they look after each other. Additional Details It's more the fact of who is playing and where! |

Sorry, not a parent yet but I just thought I'd add my 2 cents.
I completely see your point of 'it's a fact of who's playing an where.'
There is always going to be the possibility of trouble with NI fans because unfortunately there is an intolerant element to the fan base up here.
But if you trust your daughter's friends and think them sensible then I don't see any reason why you shouldn't let her go.
1. The Gardai will be in huge numbers and will be more than able to contain any violence.
2. I presume your daughter'll be sitting with the Irish fans who are some of the most civil in the world, they won't react (if there is any trouble).
It's going to be a great match in a superb stadium and it really is testimony to how far we've come that such a match is even happening. It should be a great day and if your daughter doesn't want her ticket I'd be more than happy to buy it off her! :p
Ps. As some one who's been a teenager (not so many moons ago) I think if your sensible and just don't get involved in anything that looks dodgy in the vast amount of instances you will be grand. And you have to live after all!
pps all NI fans are not trouble makers, just thought I should make that clear. |
|

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge
|
Of course we would.
As long they don't go singing 'The Sash My Father Wore' in front of the Republic supporters or 'Four Green Fields' in front of the Norn Iron supporters, and as long as they don't decide to take a night tour of Moyross they should be okay. |

Poor limerick has a bad old name! But i would be more worried who is playing then it being in limerick! Id let her go as long as there is no alcohol involved they should be ok. |

If they look after each other I reckon they sound decent and sensible enough.Just get her to text once or twice during her day out for your own peace of mind. |

is maith liom caca milis freisin.
my 15 year old has already done this. i'm amazed by the way the teenage boys and s look out for each other. i trust them all with each other. they disco and gig together and are always safe home. just give her set times to be where you need her to be and to text you regularly. after that let her at it. in 18 months she be old enough to marry and vote, eh? |

I would let her go, with your blessing. It's all part of growing up.
I would take comfort in the fact that the match is in the Republic and she will be with the supporters, who will outnumber the NI fans by at least 25 to 1. This is massive insurance cover when you have that majority, in the event of trouble, on your side.
If you were to tell me that the match was in Belfast, I would say a definite NO, as she would be in the reverse situation, for the same reasons.
Limerick will be good to her, and she will have a brilliant time. |

Polilical conundrum...

She'd be fine. Limerick is far safer than Dublin.
I know because I live here, and I used to live in Dublin. |
