You already know this, but Donegal is part of Ulster, one of the three counties not in NI, and it's not easy to get to Donegal from the south without going through NI. |
|

hello!

i dont think that donegal is a part of the north of ireland..it maybe in the north but it is the republic of ireland ...... lol
good question |

I don't know why, I've always known it to be the nicest place to visit at the northern point of the Republic of Ireland myself.
Why do some people say anything they know nothing about? That's my next question.
Perhaps they don't mean to say it's " Part of Northern Ireland," they just mean to say " It's in the Northern Portion of Eire or ' Ireland Herself ' poor choice in word usage maybe |

it could be your accent. I have friends that live in letterkenny and I always thought their accent sounds like it is a mix of both north and south, that could just confuse people. my friends husband is from Donegal and when he moved down here they are all thought that he was from Northern Ireland and gave him a hard time because of it, how thick would you have to be not to know Donegal is in the south. |

gosh, Northern Ireland isn't a seperate country? Maybe you haven't checked the Anglo Irish Accord - the Taiosich signed it off the Republics wish list at that stage. So sorry - it's a seperate country and a constituent part of the UK - which of course Donegal isn't.
I have to admit I've never met anyone that thought that Donegal was a part of Northern Ireland - sure it's part of Ulster, as are Monaghan and Cavan, two other counties that are part of the Republic. |

Northern Ireland is not a separate country; at best it is a territory of th UK, arguably it is occupied territory. Most of your compatriots probably haven't looked at a map lately, or don't care. It doesn't help any that it's only barely connected to the rest of Ireland proper, and most of its business and communications run through Northern Ireland. It also has the highest proportion of Protestants of any county, many of whom are at least as closely ties with their counterparts in the northern counties or the Uk as they are with Ireland itself. |
