You should go to Donegal, maybe around Bunbeg. I think they have the prettiest beaches in the world. The water's feckin freezing though!

I brought my dog to Durrus in west Cork last year, it was great, until she decided to bark at the waves crashing on the cliffs, anyway, there are websites, that will tell you dog friendly places.

If you are from the US, I think your dog would need to be quarantined for 6 months before coming into Ireland. Talk to your vet about this. Otherwise your dog will need some sort of passport. And if you are planning on staying in a rural area with farms around, you must make sure your dog is under control at all times.

You need to tell us where you're travelling from, the rules for bringing a pet from the UK or the EU or outside the EU vary - you may find depending on where you're coming from the dog may need to be quarantined for up to six months.

Edit: from the citizens information website:

"Animals coming to Ireland from the UK (or the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man) are not subject to the quarantine or passport requirements. In effect, there is a common travel zone between Ireland and the UK and dogs and cats can move freely within that zone provided they do not travel outside it."

There are some nice beaches in Kerry.

im originally from county Louth, parts of it are lovely and rural (especially a place called carlingford)
if you're looking for somewhere quiet i wouldnt go near dublin. too busy and touristy.
