I didn't think it was that bad in The Simpsons, to be honest. It was a hell of a lot better than the treatment we got in P.S. I Love You which was supposed to be a serious-ish movie.

Most of the time, I just laugh at their vision of the country. Fair enough if they want to believe Ireland is like The Shire, but with more drinking, I won't shatter their illusions. It's just funny. Most of the time, when you sterotypical see fiddle dee dee Irish people in American media, it's not in a serious context, so I don't get that annoyed.

The best example of fake Irishness ever was probably this movie called The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns - Whoopi Goldberg plays a Banshee and does possibly the WORST (and I've heard some really dreadful ones in my time) Irish accent of all time. Even worse than Tom Cruise and that girl who was in Heroes. *shudder*

Don't really much ice cream in the winter, but maybe once a fortnight during the summer. =]

i thought it was funny...i love the simpsons and they make fun of everyone. To me, their impersonations of the irish is more making fun of the stereotype of irish people, rather than the irish themselves..so dont see why anyone would get offended.

and i only eat ice cream when it's hot, and its very rarely hot in Ireland.

They make fun of everyone on the Simpsons.

They have a pop at everyone on the simpsons.
However the atrocious fiddly dee accent of the boy in the movie was a bit annoying.

The accent drove me insane but they were pretty accurate in implying that Americans think we all know Bono.

I have the same thing that everyone else thought when they saw The Simpsons movie, the best bit about it was the Spider Pig song & the Simpsons has jumped the shark.

As for their portrayal of the Irish, the movie was a long time ago now & I don't remember any specific caricature of the Irish but generally speaking The Simpsons is about satire, the last stereotype I remember seeing on the show was taken to such an extreme that it was ridiculous & I'm sure even an American audience would have questioned their own view of how they see the Irish.

It's the same way were always portrayed, using the leprechaun Irish accent and making us out to be planks, but it was funny, it wasn't funny in that film P.S I Love You. But it was funny in The Simpson Movie.

Well the insult everyone.
And hardly ever because I only like the expensive stuff (Hagen Das and Ben&Jerry's!)

Not seen the movie myself, but let me take a wild guess...

Big Irish fella propping a bar up, bright red hair, long red beard, green checkered kilt on...

No idea where the ice cream fits in with stereotypical mindset?
