No.. I'd stay without becoming a citizen.
I'd feel like I was cheating on Ireland lol. |

No never
The Canadians are backward in that respect. The Australians dropped that silly reference in their swearing in ceremony for new citizens. |

If I had a decision to move to one of the Commonwealth countries, even if it was a great move for me or whatever, If it came to it that I would HAVE to swear an oath to the Queen I wouldn't and I would cancel my plans to move.
I'm stubborn about those kind of things, for example I wouldn't look for American Citizenship in the future as they would make me say the Pledge of Allegiance and Its so cheesy, no thanks. |

My uncle moved to Canada in the early 60's, and he still refuses to take the oath, even though he has been living there, nearly 50 years.
It obviously doesn't seem to affect him too much. |

your friend must understand that the oath is just one aspect of canadian citizenship. such oaths are common. just trad bull.
I would swear (but it wouldnt be an oath)
and anyone who thinks she not at all responsible or hasnt done them wrong might remember her in full military uniform taking a salute from troops home from Overseas Ops in Ireland, as their Commander in Chief |
|

Meathgirl!
|
No I wouldn't. |

I'm American(of Irish descent) I wouldn't , couldn't even curtsy to her. |

Well, if your friend wants to become a Canadian citizen, she might have to. However, I wasn't aware that this was part of becoming a Canadian citizen. |

I'd be uncomfortable swearing an oath to anyone - even Her Majesty. |

If she was the head of state for a country that I wanted to become a citizen of then why not. The current Queen has done nothing against me and the oath sworn is merely a historic tradition which no longer holds the same meaning. It is a symbol and a symbol is only as powerful as the significance you give it. |

To be honest if I really wanted to become a citizen of the country eg. Canada, I'd swear the oath but I wouldn't really mean it. It really makes no difference. |

No I would have Great Problems Doing That. I would find it hard Swearing an Oath to any Person. They are all Self Servers looking after themselves NO1. |
