Irish relatives...........?

Well, my great granddad was from Co. Tipperary
(I am pleased to be 1/8th irish!! XD)

He also had relations from Waterford (But i dont know if they just lived in Waterford or what)

His name was Thomas Francis Burke

& Was born around 1900 and died in 1973 (almost sure)

Does anyone in Ireland know how i can trace him?

I just wanted to know a bit more, i tried genes reunited, but because it's Ireland, not much luck

I don't know much, but i know he lived in South England for a while

Thanks!
Additional Details
I live in South England, Surrey.

The census records for 1901 and 1911 are currently being put online (and will be available to view for free), and according to the site, should be completed within the next three years (I don't now when that was written though).

The ones currently available are for Dublin, Antrim, Down and Kerry. http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy/censusrtns.html

You'll have to wait a bit for the Tipperary ones though. This is the order they're being put online in http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/about/futureplans.html I'm waiting on the Wexford ones myself :)

In the meantime, I suppose like the others said you could try chuurch records, but I don't know how easy that will be for you since you live in England.

Was it Burke or Bourke?

It's a Norman-French name, came to Ireland in or after 1169, so is likely to have been slightly more concentrated in the south-east of the country. You'll need to try church records. Bear in mind that there is also a County Waterford that borders on Tipperary, you might want to start searching in towns and villages along this border first.

Good luck with it!

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge
We knew a Tommy Burke who lived in Ballydung for a while.
He owed us a few quid. Could it be the same fella?

hippo
im from tipp and bourke is indeed a common name were i am from, tipperary is one of the largest counties in ireland so it will prove though!

Start by having a look around this site for Irish connections. Its free to browse if you register, but a bit expensive if you want more detail. Worth a look.

I'll watch these answers with interest, as my grandma's family also hails from Ireland, and spookily the name is also Burke. They came over looking for work and found it at the steelworks near Sheffield and Workington.
I haven't had any great success with my researches, I think there isn't much on line yet.
Believe one of the problems is that most centralised birth/marriage and death records got destroyed in Dublin in the Easter uprising of 1916. The data probably still exists but is most likely held in the parishes, so you have to know quite a lot before you can go hunting.
If you've got his marriage certificate, it should give place of birth, and maybe parents name and occupation. If there are any brothers or cousins about, worth tracking them down. One of the irish traditions was the family bible, in which the family logged bmd stuff, can be a real treasure if you can find yours.

Good luck
