Is Dublin Ireland a nice place to live?

I'm living in the western part of the US currently, but i might move to Dublin for a job. I am just wondering what it's like. So if you love it or hate it tell me why. Thanks!!

I absolutely detest it and don't set foot in the place if I can possibly avoid it.

Compared to the rest of Ireland it's a dismal place full of bad tempered people with attitude, no decent pubs, overpriced everything and a day-long, city wide traffic jam. Public transport is a joke, you wait in the horizontal rain for half an hour for a bus that should have been there 2 minutes after you arrived at the bus stop, and then there come three buses in a row, but you will be lucky to get a place on the last one because they are filled to bursting.
Accommodation will be eating into your salary big-time, flats (apartments) are built to abominable standards, and have no room for things like e.g. a bike (you take your life into your hands if you use it in Dublin, if you survive it will be stolen in the first week anyway, so why bother?)
The only things I do like about Dublin are the Botanical Gardens and the Phoenix Park, but I would not live there, ever.

If you really want to move to Ireland, go to Cork or Galway. Even Belfast and Derry are nicer places to live in and have nicer people in them than Dublin.

Yeah, its a good place to live, great social scene, friendly people, loads of culture. Good spot to travel to anywhere else in Europe.

But the weather is crap (compared to the Western USA) and its very expensive. People think we're on great wages, but it just about covers the cost of living. Traffic is terrible, and you may find the Irish attitude of 'ah sure it'll be grand' or total militantism a bit strange to handle at first.

We may (allegedly) speak the same language, but its very different to the US. You'll either think its quaint, and never leave, or will run screaming.

I live in dublin i LOVE it

Viva La Eire!
I live in Dublin and go to trinity College right in the heart of the city centre. i like it but I would prefer to lie in new york. I don't think you can appreciate where you live untill you have lived somewhere else. Ireland was voted the #1 place o visit in countless tourists guides but i would never have imagined it.

As I said, i like it but right now it definitely the wrong time to move. there isnt a single job going, its very expensive to live here and the budget was just released, NOT GOOD! debt debt debt! healthcare system is good..............compared to rural south Africa! its terrible!

All in all its a good place to live/visit but i would wait untill the whole 'global recession' thing is over!

Good luck!

I know lots of young people mostly in their twenties who live there and most of them think it's great craic but yes it can be pricey.

Might be the wrong time to come. Dublin is a wonderful place to live, but, at the moment, we are officially in a recession-like most of the western world. That means it will be harder to get the kind of jobs that most immigrants get. The Irish now need those kind of jobs for themselves. Unless you have some very sought after skill, it will be harder for you to get a job.
I love Dublin. I love the wit and the charm of the place. People just have a good sense of humour here. But, like anywhere else, it is no city to be hungry in. Think long and hard before you come. If you have something unique to offer, there will be takers. Other than that, maybe you might wait a year or so, until the financial mess that the banks caused plays itself out
