Is Dublin a good place to go on holiday? What are the best attractions?

In my 5 years of living here I have never been to the Guiness Storehouse. Theres a pub on top of it and you can see all of Dublin from up there (I hear). People have mentioned Stephens Green and Grafton street but they are the expensive side of the city. Henry Street and Mary Street are better value. Buskers in Temple Bar is a good value nightclu (no jeans now) and Spirit is a solid bet too. Although Traffic (right next door) is more chart RnB stuff. Spirit is more quality Dance music and you can get massages and stuff there. Remember the smoking ban and be warned- outside on the street every second person will blow smoke in your face. Watch out for charity collectors who will talk to you for an hour and ask for your bank details. I know a place where you can get legal "extacy" pills, if you''re interested. Have a good time. Oh, and up to the middle of January there are ice skating rinks and Funderland, a rollercoaster park.

Depends on what you like. Here's a few suggestions. Go to the Phoenix Park (biggest park in Europe). You can go to the Pope's Cross there. If your not a religious person go to the top of it and lie down and roll down the hill. Great craic. Used to do it as a kid and still do when I get a chance!! Go into the city and you have to go to the Guinness factory. Even if you don't like the black stuff, you can spend a day in there with all there is to see. Recommend the bar at the top of the factory. All windows and you can look over all of Dublin. Like shopping? Head to Grafton street. It's very expensive but worth wallking down and stopping off at a cafe. (Try Bewleys another Dublin experience) Go to Trinity college. See the Book of Kells there and pretend your a student for an hour or two. Theres loads to do there and if you want to really want to be like a Dubliner go on the M50 early in the morning> Biggest car park in Dublin!! You'll know what I mean if you try it!! Enjoy the Dublin experience whatever you do !! Good luck

it is a little expensive and the only attraction that pops to mind is guiness oh and irish women there quite tasty too

I think Dublin is better for a weekend than a holiday, as there is not too much to touristy stuff to see. The best places are St Stevens Green, Trinity College, and of course the Temple Bar area. If you stay anywhere in the city center, you will be able to walk all over downtown and see the whole city. It is a great city for drinking and partying, and the people are fantastic. I had a great time there and I will definitely go back!

P.S. Dont forget to take a tour of the Guiness factory!

I'd have to disagree with the idea that it's dangerous mate and to say it's descended into chaos is vastly overstating it. In fact I've lived here for 8 years and I don't know anyone who's been beaten up, I know one person who was pickpocketed in the city centre and that's pretty much it on the crime front... keep your eye on your valubles, don't flash your cash, but that's goes for anywhere with a crowd. And don't go wandering down dark narrow alleys at night, especially if you're drunk, but I'd say the same for any city on that as well... There has been gangland feuding recently but it's not like they're running around the city centre firing off guns at crowds - mostly they're running into each others houses and shooting each other. If you're a tourist and you're doing touristy things you'll have no problems.

That said, it is expensive and personally, I don't think the restaurants are up to much...Living here it's hard to say if it's a good place to go on holiday... if you're into drinking then you're well sorted. As for other cultural pursuits, the websites listed earlier should sort you out but if you're into museums then there's a couple I'll mention... there are a few different sections (Natural History / Archeology / Decorative Arts) of the National Museum of Ireland (see link below) and IMMA, the Irish Museum of Modern Art (also see link below).

In summer, sure, but it's bitter cold in the winter with no place to hide from the winds.

The "Guinness Factory Tour" is a bit of an understatement - it's more akin to Willy Wonka's place than your average brewery, with graceful 30-foot waterfalls just to illustrate how pure the water is, giant glasses to show how they test for colour, etc etc.

Plus the Sky Bar gives you the best view of Dublin in the world at the same time as the best pint of the black stuff (Guinness famously doesn't travel too well - this has travelled less than 100 metres from the finishing tank).

I wouldn't go right now, my friend, the city has descended into chaos. There is alot of gangland feuding going on right now, and more often than not, bystanders are bearing the brunt of it. I know many people who have gone there just for the day, and been robbed or beaten up. Even though it is a beautiful city, and historically rich certainly, it's too dangerous to visit right now, you wouldn't be able to wander around it as tourists are wont to do.

What the 'best' attractions are would depend on what your interests are. There are many cultural, historical and scenic attractions.

People generally find it expensive here.

I was in Dublin last October, and I had a marvelous time. There are so many places to see and do I couldn't even begin to mention all of them. Some previous answers have given you some websites to visit. I used them as well before I went. I also bought the book "Ireland for Dummies". It was a very handy resource because it had addresses, phone numbers, and websites to many attractions, places to eat, stores, all kinds of things. And not the Dublin. The entire country. Definitely go to Dublin. Its wonderful!!

i live in the north and have been going to dubin for years to gigs.temple area very lively.Bruxelles very good.lately the police have said it is getting rough because of drug gang offences stabbings etc.but if you stay on the main it is good. very expensive though.

make sure you get to Grogans in the centre of town for a tasty pint of guinness...avoid temple bar...it's for tourists.

The guiness store house is good. You finish the tour with a free pint in the bar at the top of the store house - it's got a 360 degree view of Dublin, so go on a good day!

Also, get a ticket for the tour bus - you can hop on and off at all the main attractions, or sit on there all day if you like. The tour bus ticket is about 15 euros (maybe less) but it then gets you money off many of the attractions like the guiness store.

Dublin is a great place to go. Scenic, cultural, historical, night life is great, whether you like clubbing, pubbing, eating and the people helpful and happy. Its excellent. Go for a weekend break and decide if its worth going for a holiday. Bet you do.
