Is Ireland expensive to live in?

I live in Australia where i dont think things are to expensive, but me and a friend are moving to Ireland in 2010 for a year and she heard it was 'really expensive' over there and now she's all worried for costs but i cant find anything, like statistics and etc. Anybody?

yes!! and the australian dollar isnt the best against the euro i think its like 1000 aus dollars = 650 euro

(if stayin in dublin) dont live in the city centre rent is crazy your better off rentin in places like tallaght still pretty pricey but you have alot of ammintes around you and its only like 2euro on the luas (tram) to town!!

barbara b
it is. I was in Spain 3 weeks ago and a tube of tooth paste there was 95 cents, the same tube in Ireland is 2.50euro.

wages are higher in Ireland though, minimum wage is around 8.50 an hour.

Also we depend on a lot of British shops who seem pleased to rip us off, by not reducing the sterling euro rate.

yes ireland in expensive, prices just keep rising all the time check out this link

http://www.irishjobs.ie/guide/living.asp

you could nearly add on another euro to them prices now

yes

Coming from Australia you will probably find Ireland expensive, especially for accommodation. If you were used to Swedish prices, you would not find it so expensive. It depends what you are used to.

This site has all sorts of statistics on prices of everyday items in Ireland in general and in Dublin:

Yes, Ireland is expensive. There is no other way to answer this question and given any comparison Ireland is expensive. It is the same price for a Sandwich as in Monacco!!!!!

You can go to http://secretireland.blogspot.com for more help, or just keep blogging!!

i went to Ireland on holiday this week and stayed in someone else's house. It was a bungalow ( rent ) it cost 650-750 euros a month. It probably depends on where abouts you want to live in Ireland. I went to Carrick On Shannon. And all the houses look really really nice and expensive. I don't know about other places though.

Irelands pricing of property (rental or buy) goods and services are relative to earnings within Ireland..so compared to the Australian dollar yes very....sorry it is a fact.

But having said that, get a job here and you are quids in.

It very much depends where you want to live - Dublin is one of the most expensive cities to live in in the world, but some villages in Ireland are amongst the cheapest in Europe.
