Is Ireland really what movies make it seem? ? |
like in movies like "P.S. I Love You" it looks really beautiful but then in movies like "The Snapper" it looks kind of depressing... so is it a mix of both or is it more strongly like one as opposed to the other? |

Ok yea it really depends where you go! Ps i love you.. go to the west coast.. galway city or a small village or town on the coast. Dublin is cool but like any city it has a depressing side the roads out of dublin are all industrialised.. its all concrete and cars until you start going west.. there are a few nice places in the east to but the fact dublin is so close is obvious. Go to the WEST COAST!! |

I guess the US is just like the Die Hard movies, eh?!
It depends on where you go and who you meet. Where I live is like a cross between 'Waking Ned' and 'The Field', with an awful lot of Father Ted thrown in. The Snapper is a much more realistic view of Irish city life than PS I love You.
Edit-- Ah Ted, is it yourself? I thought we'd locked you in the Legion Hall until it's time for Christmas Eve Mass... |

I was in Irelan in October 02. It is an amazing place, very beautiful. There are shades of green that you can not imagine, the country side is something that must be seen in person to be understood, there aren't words for it. The sky was grey much of the time but the clouds rolled in an endless spiral, it was hypnotic. You should go and go soon. |

Ey, ey. Let's not be knocking anything by Roddy Doyle, yeah? Why they didn't make the movie about the Rabbitte family, and keep my future husband Robert Arkins as Jimmy, I'll never know... but to your question.
My mother went to Ireland last year, and even though she was drunk when she called me, I think her sentiments still stand clear. This is basically what she told me. "Oh god, this place is amazing. I never want to leave. It's f*cking amazing. The people are f*cking amazing, the food is f*cking amazing... it's the most beautiful place I've ever been.... but, I did get a bruise on the DART. I'm taking you with me when I come back. This place is great!"
According to her, Ireland's basically just the greatest country in the world. I get to go next year, and Jesus, am I excited! |

There's depressing things in all countries.
Countryside is beautiful and cities are pleasant - with a few dodgy areas, like all cities (depressing parts of movies) |

It has much more drizzling rain and less sunshine than any other country in Europe, so, yes, it can be depressing if you're sensitive about the weather. Having been to both countries for a fortnight, I'd prefer Spain for a vacation. |
