Hello Mary,
Killaloe is a really beautiful part of Ireland, and has quite a lot going for it I used to cross the bridge at Killaloe many times with my truck whe I had arrived in Ireland at Rosslare in Co.Wexford. you will like to be there all the time you are there. the west end of the Bridge is in Co Clare and the opposite end is in Co Tipperary. from the Killaloe end of the Bridge, 20 miles to the north, is where I grew up as a young lad, up in my beloved Sleive Achty Mountains.
Aronud the Killaloe area there isn't all that much really to entertain the tourist that would like to be doing things, but you are not too far from Limerick, and after the nightlife there bothers you to be enjoying Dancing drinking and movies, you might like to enjoy a night out at Bunratty Castle or even Durty Nelly's. these attractions are on the N 18 Road between Limerick and Ennis, now Ennis is a lovely old town to get lost in and has plenty to offer the tourist, esp. shopping and Restaurants, of all kinds..
I hope you go to Killaloe to enjoy the starry nights, all you have to do is look up into the night-sky and wonder at all the Universe there on display. totally amazing, but do remember to get away from the street-lights, you will see more, and enjoy it longer...Wish I was going with you but I am stuck in the UK have fun Mary, and enjoy every moment of your journey....Bye Tony M |

It's a very nice place for a holiday in its own right, on the Shannon and right beside Lough Derg. Plus you're practically in County Clare, and very close to Limerick city and its vibrant and seriously underrated arts scene. I would say it's a good base for touring Clare, Tipperary, south Galway, County Limerick, North Kerry and North Cork. All those places are two hours away by car or less. |
