Northern Ireland is a country in it's own right. It's part of the UK (which is very different to being 'ruled by' or 'owned') but it has a devolved government and self-determination where the people will decide weather NI will be independent, continue to be part of the the UK or join the Republic of Ireland.

I should be doing something else
Yes, Northern Ireland is a country, and one of the four constituent countries of the UK. It does not 'belong' to the UK.

Yes, NI is one of the countries that make up the UK. Ireland is a separate country although they share the same island of Ireland.

Not a stupid question at all - no one knows everything about the world.

happysaunders
yes it is a country

Yeah but it's part of the UK and is ruled by England...it uses the pound Sterling and all that and has British regestration plates...

Hanna
It's definatly an shifty area.

Northan Ireland is ruled mainly by Britain and is part of Britain. It's rarely seen as it's own country International afares it more likely to known as part of Britain but yes it is in it's own right a country.

In belongs to the UK. But as a soccer nation it exists separately.

KittyNi
look up the irish/english history over the last 800 years and it will explain everything you need to know on Northen ireland and how it became to be part of Britain (to our dismay)

give yourself an education!!!!
