which accent? there are as many accents in this country as there are places, i'm sure you'd agree that gerry adams sounds nothing like roy keane who sounds nothing like bob geldof, no? anyway, i like meself a nice cork accent, it has this twittering lyrical quality about it. and after living in ireland for six years i still can't understand people from limerick. i'm beginning to feel they're doing that deliberately. southeastern accents scare me, wexford people always sound as if they were about to hit you... the people as such are smashing, wamr hearted and great fun!
edit - re old lady's post below: it must be a while since you were here, probably the eighties. ireland is now a booming country and has the lowest unemployment in the eu, at about 3%. people immigrate here now to get their piece of the cake. you should come back some time to see how it's changed, it's amazing! |

Irish accent is very lovely; and at times confusing too :)
The real treat is to speak with Welsh natives. Welsh is it's own language, but carries a northern accent. |

Some Irish accents can be a little hard to understand at first like, but after a while you get the gist of it.,and then after awhile you don't realise that they have accents.I'm Australian,my husband and three children are Irish and most of my friends and l no longer here their accents. |

My parents are from Ireland. When I was in school my friends would come to the house just to hear my parents talk. I love their accent although it has become somewhat Americanized (is this a word?)over the years. Ireland is a wonderful place to visit no matter where you're from. |

Listening to the Irish talk is like listening to the angels sing. That accent is wonderful!
We found them to be very friendly, very helpful, and very nice. Stayed at a number of B&Bs, and interestingly enough, it was the men who cooked the breakfasts. There is terrible unemployment in Ireland, and in many cases, the wife had a job so the husband ran the B&B -- and did a superlative job of it!
Would we go again? In a heartbeat. |

The Irish people are very nice. And their accents are cool too.
I've been to Dublin and towns outside & surrounding Dublin. It's very beautiful countryside. Just like all the pictures you see in the books. ' |
